A CPAC panel on minority outreach erupted into national news last week after participants demanded justice for disenfranchised whites and expressed sympathy for slaveholders. Its a frustrating development for the events moderator, K. Carl Smith, who said hes never seen anything like what happened Friday at his previous lectures.
I read the summation of what happened in Huffington Post and those places, he said. If I had not been there I would have been infuriated, too, because theyre not telling the entire story of what happened.
Smith, 55, was brought in by the Tea Party Patriots to deliver a talk entitled Trump The Race Card: Are You Sick And Tired Of Being Called A Racist When You Know Youre Not One? He travels the country selling books and lecturing audiences on how to turn black voters into Frederick Douglass Republicans.
He accurately noted that Scott Terry, the person who asked Smith why Frederick Douglass forgave his former master for giving him shelter and food, was greeted with a shocked response from many attendees not applause or cheers. But Terry and his companion, Matthew Heimbach, both of whom are associated with white nationalist movements, werent removed either. And several attendees expressed sympathy with their grievances about oppression against whites if not their take on slavery.
I think if it lasted a little longer they would have been kicked out, but it didnt last much longer after that, he said. I couldnt see the back of [Heimbachs] shirt, which had a Confederate flag. If thats the case we need to be watchful of that kind of stuff.

(101,361 posts)Slavemaster-run health care, Smith says. Slavemaster entitlements. Douglass was a 47 percenter. Slavemasters were Democrats.
...
He died wealthy, Smith explains. He wrote three autobiographies. He owned two newspaper companies Douglass was a 47 percenter. He became a 1 percenter.
...
You cannot out-victimize Douglass. I dont care what kind of categories. Nobody can out-victimize Douglass, a runaway slave . Slavery is based on the distorted philosophy of taking the fruits of one mans labor and giving it to another so that he can remain idle . Douglass believed in assimilation. Now do you understand why you dont hear too much about Douglass?

How many Republican buzz-word attacks on the modern-day state can you fit into 4 paragraphs ostensibly about slavery 150 years ago? I bet K. Carl Smith can fit in more than you. Even if they make no fucking sense whatsoever. One moment he's saying slavemasters were people providing healthcare and 'entitlements' to the 47% - which he then says is what Douglass was, ie slaves. The next, he's calling the slavemasters the ones who live off their slaves' labor so they can be idle - which is accurate, but completely at odds with what he claimed just before that.

(37,162 posts)Yeah, the Democrats who these days are referred to as "the Republican base".
And the Republicans of Douglass' day were a liberal/left party. Mr. Smith, does CPAC know you're a 'liberal'?
