Elizabeth Colbert-Busch Wins South Carolina Dem Primary, Mark Sanford Advances To GOP Runoff

Elizabeth Colbert-Busch Wins South Carolina Dem Primary, Mark Sanford Advances To GOP Runoff

Elizabeth Colbert-Busch has won the Democratic primary in South Carolina’s 1st district for this year’s special election. Colbert-Busch won by an overwhelming margin and now moves on to the general election, where it looks like her potential opponent will, in fact, be former governor Mark Sanford. Sanford won a plurality of the Republican votes, but because he did not get a clear majority, he will move to a runoff election.

Colbert-Busch won the Democratic primary against Ben Frasier with roughly 96 percent of the vote. Her campaign got a big boost in no small part due to promotion on the air and off by her famous brother, comedian Stephen Colbert.

Meanwhile, Sanford is continuing his truly unique political comeback after his infamous sex scandal in 2009. He won the Republican primary with 37 percent of the vote, but is now moving to a runoff. His opponent in that race has yet to be determined.

I don't think there is a question about it.

What are they going to throw at him?

It's all been done.

Local channel here (I live in this area of SC) just called him "Tea Party before there was a Tea Party" for refusing some bailout from the federal government during the height (assuming that was the height) of the recession.

He's our next congressman. No doubt.

I live in Fl and have Rick Scott for gov, with ex-West. So I empathize with you. What the heck is wrong with some people? The same ones that vote for Sanford are the same that spew crap about Clinton. But I guess they are blinded by the hypocrisy of their party.

This is just a warm-up.

Haley, who won by a small margin in red state, was in charge when the SS#s and other personal info, including bank account info for most, of every taxpayer in SC. was stolen - hacked, and we come to find that this sensitive info, on every SC taxpayer, was not encrypted.

She's almost sure to face a Repub challenger. She is not well liked even among Repubs here.

Add to that that there is much talk of a serious primary challenge to Lindsay Graham. Repubs here are not keen on him either.

And from what I can tell, and I have a couple of friends here who are "in the know" to an extent with state Repub politics, the party is at war with itself, with the establishment types attacking in nasty ways the Libertarian insurgents, who are a minority, but a motivated and active minority.

Fun fun fun.

Still, we'll never top FL for pure political entertainment.

Too tired to write more, so will turn in now. But between your state and mine (not really mine, but just where I happen to live by chance), republicans are just imploding.
