Another GOP Obama Scandal Falls Apart as It Is Revealed the IRS also Targeted Liberals
The latest Republican Obama scandal is starting to fall apart too. The IRS didnt just target conservative groups. They also questioned the tax exempt status of liberal groups too.
In 2012, The Chicago Tribune reported on the IRS denying tax exempt status to a liberal political group,

Wonder if they made the point of their organizations to evade paying taxes?
What I'm saying is the conservative groups are very verbal about not believing in paying their fair share. Seems like they asked for it.

(10,622 posts)And at today's press conference, the President said that, if true, the IRS's actions were "outrageous and there's no place for it." Those responsible will "be held fully accountable."
Thank Gawd Obama is outraged by the harassment of liberals! Or was it the baggers? hard to keep it all straight.
Personally, I thought the baggers were just whining because they didn't want to pay taxes while promoting bagger politicians, because you know, tax laws don't apply to Ayn Randians.
At least it is fair, both sides were investigated and "it [IRS] took the actions against" the bagger as well as "the two groups defined as tax-exempt under the 501(c)(4) section of the tax code." that were liberal and mentioned in your story. it is true right?
That
"the IRS denying tax exempt status to a liberal political group" also took away that status from the baggers that were whining about being looked at or you would not so easily prove both sides were treated the same.
If it were not true the baggers didn't lose their tax exempt status and were treated much better than the liberals and Obama only defended the right here and not the left. We all know that would never be true. Don't we?

(35,350 posts)Exempt status was eventually granted the conservative groups. However they were held to a higher standard and additional review than most groups. That singled them out for a violation of due process prior to any allegation of wrong doing. Even if the occasional liberal group was singled out for additional review, the higher standards were applied disproportionately, given what's been said so far.
The exempt group that lost its status had been granted its status and had abused it. Now, it's possible that they were singled out for special review and that multiple other groups engaged in the same behavior and weren't punished. That hasn't been shown, however.
That's not good. It all might not be bad, but this particular article confounds two dissimilar and unequal kinds of things, claims that they're similar and equal, and because we want them to be similar and equal in order to make the annoyance go away we gladly agree. Disproportionate is equal, prior review for unproven but suspected future violations is the same as punishment for violations past and proven.

U R full of shit.
I was searching Google for ALL the witch hunting the gop'ers were on with the Clintons, and I neglected to read them closely. Later, I realized it was not a site with ALL the "x-gates" that arose, but rather an actual right wing site that had listed the selected ones and gave their reasons for WHY they were "valid", which is actual BS.
I'm not really full of shit, but I certainly didn't do my proofing before posting. I did go back on the site and looked for my posting so I could self-delete, but apparently the thread was already put to sleep, because I couldn't locate it; and consequently gave up and figured it was past.
I noticed that there were other "x-gates" that were not listed, such as "trooper-gate", and that's because even the reich wingers couldn't justify some of their witch hunting.
Hope this makes sense. I'm not losing sleep over it; but it was poor editing on my part.

(153,185 posts)isn't the IRS *SUPPOSED* to investigate tax-exempt statuses? And wouldn't people who BRAG about their extreme aversion AS A POLITICAL PARTY to all things taxes be naturally targeted???

(14,568 posts)I agree, completely.
I don't get the concern over the IRS ensuring that non-profits are no engaging in political activities they should not be engaging in.
Also, there is LITTLE doubt, none, that if their were liberal groups, it would be totally fine.
