2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumGood article on the NJ Senate race
This is not the most up to date article as we have a 4th candidate (Shelia Oliver) in the primary, but it explains how political insiders in NJ feel about Booker.

(20,176 posts)is there anything ever that could make you stop and think "hmm...maybe Cory Booker and Hillary Clinton aren't all that?"
I mean: NJ Dems love Cory Booker...it affirms your belief in Cory Booker; NJ Dems despise Cory Booker...it affirms your belief in Cory Booker. Hillary's the front-runner...it affirms your belief in Sec. Clinton; Hillary's got huge polling negatives...it affirms your belief in Sec. Clinton.
This kind of hero-adulation, it's not healthy. Politicians are people...they're going to let you down. Neither Clinton or Booker can live up to the ideal that exists in your head of how good they will be.

(22,057 posts)If I lived there I'd probably vote in the primary for Rush Holt, mainly because he's a 5 time Jeopardy winner. After that, I'd have no problem supporting whoever might be the Democratic nominee.

(22,057 posts)is still the only decent representative from the state. I'm really happy for you that you can afford to have disdain for Rush Holt. Down here, he'd be considered a radical-socialist-Marxist-commie pedophile and I'd crawl for the chance to vote for him.
I truly envy you your vote in the senate primary. Choosing one of 4 decent senate candidates would be remarkable for me. I haven't had that chance since 1978 when Jim Eastland retired and there was a seriously contested Democratic primary. I voted for the winner, Maurice Dantin but he lost to Thad Cochran who has been senator ever since. And so it goes....

(22,057 posts)I'm so sick of voting for cretins but down here cretins are the "good guys" comparatively speaking. And that's just sad.
