Wendy Davis will pay the price for her courage in Texas.

The hero of last night's fight for a women's reproductive rights has been politically assaulted. While everyone was watching her valiant fight on behalf of the rights of her constituents, the good ol' boy network in Texas has pretty much ensured Ms. Davis won't be reelected in 2014. After SCOTUS gutted section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, the Republican leadership is now free to implement the previously ruled unconstitutional gerrymandered redistricting in Texas. Wendy Davis represents a district in Fort Worth that contains a vast majority of minority citizens. The new district as of today has split those minority citizens placing them in three different white districts. This will not only make her reelection almost impossible, it also takes away the strong advocacy that Ms. Davis has provided during her tenure. After watching the Republican shenanigans last night and seeing their punitive Machiavellian plans come to the fore today, I hope the Democrats here today remember this well as the state eventually turns from red to purple to blue as demographics change in the years to come. You can see the redistricting map and particulars in this article.

The San Antonio court ruled that changing Senator Davis' seat was a Section 2 violation in the last court fight. I doubt that the court will change that ruling

I was at a Battleground Texas event last night. The Texas GOP may try to steal this seat again. Since the San Antonio court protected this seat under section 2 but the GOP will continue to try to steal this seat

Still, it shows the desperation and underhanded intimidation techniques of crazy GOPers.

My hope is that Wendy Davis has a bright, bright future in the Democratic party, both in the State of Texas and nationally. As a Texan, I'm going to see if I can help that happen.

But should the Republicans gang up on her (once again as they did last night) and try to take her seat from her, whether by legal or illegal means (which illegal means, we all saw they are capable of last night!), then I hope she will feel that her stand last night was WORTH IT ALL.

She is a true AMERICAN hero.

I would love to see her rewarded for her courage, but I'm afraid the GOP will now see her as a threat with a national reputation. I believe I might have to send what little I can afford for future campaigns.

During her next campaign she'll need lots of help. Even if the law gets passed, she made a courageous stand (literally) for women's rights.
