The John Lewis Voting Rights Act

Leader Pelosi is considering offering a neww bill, The John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Then have John Lewis and others stand on the House floor every day to demand its passage.

Then just dare the GOP to vote against it. We'll have such a huge minority voter turn out in 2014, that it'll make their two-faced heads spin.

When I think of the decades of struggle and abuse endured by great people like John Lewis that resulted in the 1965 Voting Rights Act I am appalled by the Court's ruling.

Naming the new bill for John Lewis is a wonderful tribute.

Unfortunately, your link goes to a forum and not a DU thread. Could you provide the link to the number and text of the bill, or repost your link to a DU thread? TIA.

when it comes to voting. They are losing and their base is dying off. I figured the 5 justices were going to gut VRA since majority of their decisions are for their corporate masters and against the American people. Citizens United to name one.

40 years later the fight continues for this issue.

are more likely to feel shame than the Senate ones did, when they walked right by Bob Dole to vote down extending the ADA, Dole's signature piece of legislation?

We've got this. Let everyone else get it passed this time. Let every white and Latino legislator stand in the congress until their feet fall off and get this passed. Every day during business hours.

All this taking a stand has me listening to the song "Stand" by Sly and the Family Stone again. Still a great song.

He is a hero and I hope he will live to see the bill get passed. Even if it has to be submitted every single year.
