so i'm talking to a young Republican this afternoon

He is telling me about the heat in the non-union shop he works in and how it can be almost painful at times. I told him he probably really appreciates his breaks and lunch so he can get to the air conditioned lunch room to cool down. He told me they don't have air conditioned lunchrooms. I then suggested a fan which brought the response, no personal items may be plugged in, you cannot even plug in your cell phone to charge it. But his biggest gripe today was the fact that he gets tomorrow off (4th) but has to work Friday. I then suggested to him that when they negotiate their next contract they should ask for the day off. He gave me a snarky grin.
Ain't that just like a Republican? they would rather suffer in solitude then join together for the betterment of all.

When he turns 18 he can get a union card. Also, tell him to block FOX on his cable line. JM42 Jul 2013 #11

I really think it's just about self-esteem. Our culture is "Me! Me! Me!" and not "We! Us!"

If you get somewhere thanks cooperating or teamwork, there's nothing about YOU that's special. That's nonsensical of course, but that is how they think; that's how many people think.

Can't someone complain of an unsafe work environment? Then again, that person would get his ass fired for complaining.

had her first job (1988). In the summer it got so hot in the office the computers shut down. She cried every day because of the heat and no air conditioning or fans. I knew she would be fired if she reported it, so I did. I called the Department of Labor & Industries. I didn't have to identify myself to make the report. A couple of days later, an inspector was sent to the workplace and they were given a warning and instructions on how to make the conditions better. They, very reluctantly, made a few changes to make it better.

Are for sissies and malingerers. They cost jobs because the "job creators" would rather lay off people to comply with them than actually use some of their profits on their workers.
