The part about all men being created equal really didn't apply to the black man when it was written. Nor any other non-propertied white man either. It was a nice platitude to be read to fire people up but didn't at all mean what Jackson said.

It just didn't end up being implemented as it was intended.....btw, one thing you should know; in eras past, the far-right was claiming the exact opposite of this: that ONLY propertied white men were EVER intended to be citizens, period, forever(when in fact, the Founders recognized that the Constitution needed to be updated with the times to make its intent clearer.). A very different approach to be sure, but it was the same type of total revisionist bullshit.

Of course, Jackson was quoting the DofI not the Constitution. There was quite a bit of time between those. Including the Articles of Confederation.

My impression is still that the Electoral College is a Result of the fear of letting the uneducated masses vote directly for President. Am I wrong about that? If so let me know and I'd love some reference reading.

Seems like every day I find I'm mistaken about something like this stuff.

Sadly, these misconceptions that I mentioned are a lot more common than many may realize, and lots of well-meaning people buy into them without knowing the real story.

(to me at least) was trying to make Thomas J. et. al. into anti-evolutionaries ("they were created, not evolved!&quot , which is a bit ingenuous, given that Darwin's The Descent of Man was not published until about a hundred years later.
