Ok, here's a plan for the states that allow same sex marriage and the ones that don't....

Real simple way to end this, the states that do issue LICENSES (that's a very important word in this) for same sex marriage, let's see one state (to start) pass a simple new law.

Any state that does not recognize that states LICENSES (note again, this time we just say LICENSES), their LICENSES will not be recognized in that state.

Not just Marriage LICENSES (can you see the hullabaloo, that will cause) but LICENSES..

Drivers Licenses
Car Registration/Licenses
any LICENSE you can include.

"I'm sorry sir, that drivers license isn't valid here, I'll have to book you for DRIVING WITHOUT A VALID LICENSE"

"Sorry, your car is impounded, driving without a valid LICENSE PLATE"

"No, you can't have insurance benefits with our company, you're not married by state law here.."

If state A can REFUSE to recognize the LEGAL LICENSE of another state, the state B can do the same.

Just imagine the fun and chaos if just one of the 13 did that.

Now imagine if all 13 did.

50 State Marriage equality in.. I say 7 days or less

of the U.S. Constitution.

That was what I never understood about DOMA. DOMA stated that state A did not have to recognize state B's same gender marriage. Further the federal government did not need to recognize state B's same gender marriage. This was always for me an open and shut case, at least between the states, of the full faith and credit clause where contracts, marriages, divorces, etc. done in one state are recognized AND ENFORCED in all the other states.

So while I agree with you this would be a wonderful way to stick it to the hicks, the states that don't recognize same gender marriage would likely retaliate and it would be a frigging mess.

I like your thinking, though. It is what we all need to be doing.

My 7 days estimate may have been off a touch. Sure, you're exactly right, have the state pass the law anyway. Send it to court. Get struck down. Then instantly the state files suit against EVERY SMEGING STATE that won't honor their marriage license. Citing the striking down of the above.

Although marriage has never been required to be recognized to the extent that, say, judgments are.
