Mitch McConnell, Alison Lundergan Grimes in effective dead heat: poll

Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes holds a razor-thin lead over Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, in the state’s 2014 Senate race, according to a new survey conducted by the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling.

Ms. Grimes leads Mr. McConnell by 1 point, 45 percent to 44 percent. The poll conducted on behalf of two liberal groups — the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy For America — has a margin of error of 2.8 percentage points.

The telephone survey of 1,210 Kentucky voters found that 40 percent approve of Mr. McConnell’s job performance and 51 percent disapprove, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal.
