Giovanni Capriglione, Texas Republican, Thinks Wendy Davis Should Foot Bill For Special Sessions
Though the abortion war in Texas may be on a break, there is a hefty bill from the special sessions that closed out the Legislature, and one Republican lawmaker has an idea of who should cover it.
In an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, state Rep. Giovanni Capriglione (R ) said that Wendy Davis should personally cover the $1.6 million cost of the two special sessions which ultimately led to new abortion restrictions in the state.
"I firmly believe that Sen. Wendy Davis should reimburse the taxpayers for the entire cost of the second special session, Capriglione said. I am sure that she has raised enough money at her Washington, D.C., fundraiser to cover the cost."
Earlier this summer, Davis made headlines for leading a last-ditch effort against Texas' latest anti-abortion legislation with a memorable 11-hour filibuster. Though the measure ultimately passed, meaning abortions are illegal in the state after 20 weeks and the vast majority of Texas' clinics will close their doors, Davis was praised for her efforts.

Well that ain't never going to happen.
But just imagine how much money we could charge the Republicans in the U.S. House for wasting all of that taxpayer money trying to repeal Obamacare 40+ times.

(51,550 posts)If he had done this in regular session, Perry could have saved the taxpayers a lot of money. But the draconian anti-choice measures would not have passed. Which of course is why he resorted to ramming it through in special session which has fewer procedural hurdles because it's designed for emergency legislation. But crap legislation that couldn't pass in regular session is not an emergency!

(24,412 posts)but only AFTER Rick Perry pays for the SECOND special session that Rick Perry called for on a non-emergency issue. AFTER Senate Republicans in Congress pay for the amount of time and money they've wasted filibustering practically everything since 2009. AFTER House Republicans in Congress pay for all of the wasted votes to repeal Obamacare not to mention the amount of time off they give themselves and all the work they DON'T get done when they are in session................
If being in politics were anything like having a *real* job, most of them would be long since fired by now. Hope Davis tells Texas Republicans where to shove it!
