Alison Grimes Storms Into Fancy Farm and Turns Mitch McConnell Into a Paranoid Old Man

Democratic senate candidate Alison Grimes blew into the Fancy Farm Picnic, stared down Mitch McConnell, and left him looking like a directionless and paranoid old man.

Alison Grimes began by talking about her long name and then said with your help Kentucky in January 2015 you can call me senator. Grimes said that she didn’t have to apologize for having more government experience than Rand Paul. She took a shot at Paul by pointing out that he wasn’t in Kentucky, he was spending his weekend with his loved ones, the tea party in Iowa. Grimes slammed McConnell for trying to gut Medicare. She said,”If the doctors told Sen. McConnell he had a kidney stone, he would refuse to pass it.” She hammered McConnell for being the most unpopular senator among both Democrats and Republicans.

Grimes said that McConnell is disliked by the voters in Kentucky and in the United States. She said McConnell is at the center of the DC dysfunction. The Democrat said after years of McConnell’s leadership the GOP stands for Gridlock Obstruction and Partisanship. She told McConnell to stop. She called out his empty rhetoric on defending Kentucky coal. She called McConnell on his votes against the Violence Against Women Act, and the Fair Pay Act.

Grimes called for Kentucky to have a senator that unites all Kentuckians. She said Kentucky women deserve equal pay for equal work, and she will fight to keep the state’s jobs from going overseas.

I hope you guys are right because I live in this state and i like Grimes, but IMO Ashley is the only one who could have brought out voters who never vote, I know the media has Grimes looking good right now but i think that has more to do with the fact they have a financial interest in making this race look close.

The media is banking on Mitch looking bad so outside donors will spend ungodly amounts to keep him in office and if Grimes is looking good the national party will throw some money her way.. but in reality Kentucky voters are not very informed and few even know who Grimes is and Kentucky voters vote at a very low % in midterms and thats why this may all just be hype.

One thing you can rely upon in Kentucky is church goers going to the poll's in midterms but thats about it. I still say this was Ashley's race, and I fear that Mitch being in trouble is just BS based on greed.

My prediction Mitch 57% Grimes 43%, I would be very happy to be wrong about this.

Her speech was terrific. In addition what's already been mentioned, she also defined Mitch as a medicare and social security cutter and, repeatedly, as a millionaire who doesn't defend workers.

The meat of her speech, her flat out "list", attacks on Mitch and Republican positions, could be a very useful ten lines for all Democratic candidates to use in this election. I've not heard them stated so clearly and concisely before, very persuasive to any rational middle class voter in any state,

If I were to give ALG any tip, it would be to mention that Mitch is worth 220 million (as of 2010, probably much more now)...much of which was made while in the Senate...yet has voted against equal pay to working women and raising of the minimum wage, and wants cuts to the meager social security benefits that workers pay towards their entire working lives. I think it would be really good in Ky especially, where there are so many impoverished Republican voters, to actually enumerate how obscenely rich Mitch is.

With all the Third Way/Fix the Debt Dems out there, it was refreshing to hear a Democrat clearly state that she stood for no
cuts to Medicare or Soc Sec. and attack her opponent worth hundreds of millions for supporting both.

Sec. of State Grimes has one big thing working for her. She is running on an anti-incumbent message during a time when Congress has never been less popular. She is also running against the ultimate symbol of Republican obstruction and incumbency. The contrast in the two candidates’ speeches was obvious. McConnell talked in paranoid tones about what would happen to Kentucky if he wasn’t reelected. Grimes talked about what she could do for Kentucky as the state’s senator.

the article mentioned Grimes' problem was that mitch was a powerful 30 year incumbent with tons of money.. hopefully, matt bevin will wear him out in the gopRopaganda primary!

I wasn't listening to him too closely but part of what I caught was when he said something like: "... Mitch McConnell has raised 20-30 million dollars and I hope ALISON LUNDERGAN GRIMES raises 20-30 million dollars to use against him..."
Anyway something like that - it seemed strange to hear him say that since HE is also running against Mitch and also against Alison. My first thought was that Ed must be think that Alison is the one that will win the Democratic primary

Still, that is a strange thing for Ed Marksberry to say.

I looked him up..

Democrat Ed Marksberry Announces 2014 Senate Bid

Owensboro Democrat Ed Marksberry is running in the 2014 Kentucky race for U.S. Senate.

Marksberry is a building contractor and former congressional candidate, who ran unsuccessfully against Republican Congressman Brett Guthrie two years ago. He lost that race by 35 points.
On his campaign website, Marksberry says he shares the experience of middle-class Kentuckians and knows first-hand their struggles in this difficult economy.

He keeps trying but it does sound like he thinks Allison will be the one.. this will be interesting!

It's more about her defending herself from Mitch.
So, maybe Ed was just defending Alison and not giving in yet.

In a wide-ranging, half-hour interview, Grimes, the Kentucky secretary of state and presumptive Democratic Senate nominee for 2014, told me that she was pro-choice down the line on abortion, and that she would delay the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that small businesses provide medical coverage to their employees.

Grimes is one of five daughters in a devout Catholic family in Lexington. “I am a practicing Catholic,” she told me. “But I’m also for separation of church and state. I am supportive of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade. And I think that this is the kind of choice that has to be up to the woman, her God and her doctor.”
