Looks like the poison fruit didn't fall far from the tree.
Cruzer had his father with him in Iowa.
(I left out the 'snips')
'Ames, Iowa
"Cruz and his father, Rafael, a Texas pastor, both addressed a gathering of Christian conservatives in Ames, Iowa on Saturday, and the elder Cruz speaking without notes recounted his imprisonment and torture in Cuba during the 1950′s and subsequent immigration to the United States.
A young charismatic leader rose up, talking about hope and change, Rafael Cruz said in a veiled reference to President Obamas 2008 campaign themes. His name was Fidel Castro.
For nearly 20 minutes, the pastor regaled the audience with a fiery pro-Christian, anti-Obama speech that drew a boisterous standing ovation from the crowd at an annual summit organized by the Family Leader, an Iowa-based conservative group.
This administration has both their hands in your pocket, the 74-year-old Cruz said. Theyre going to take everything you have.
Near the end of his speech, he declared: Obamacare is going to destroy the elderly. '

Will someone please tell me I am not crazy to have started to develop a certain...concern.. about these people. It seems to be getting worse by the day, not just irrational screeching about the ACA, but everything about President Obama, religion, race, guns, vaginas, etc., etc. And of course now Sec of State Clinton. It seems like a doppler effect - the train rushing toward you and the pitch rising as the sound waves catch up to each other, building and building.
I certainly do not fear a fight, and from my experience, neither do the good folks here at DU. It is not that WE ignore these rancid lunatics, but if the US of A ignores them it is at our own peril.
On a happier weekend note, (for Muckdogs fans anyway) the Batavia Muckdogs won last night over the Aberdeen Ironbirds in a brilliant 1-0 pitchers dual. Game today at 1 pm.

(2,593 posts)I frankly don't give a f**k what Ted says. They're both idiots.

(10,479 posts)Little by little their propaganda just may pay off and we will not realize it until it is too late. They are idiots only in their beliefs. I don't think the son, Ted, has stopped talking nonstop since he first appeared on the scene. His father, being a pastor, will be able to sway many people. We have become too complacent since Obama was reelected.

In fact, he said in an interview with Christian Broadcasting Networks David Brody that he told his son: You know Ted, you have been gifted above any man that I know and God has destined you for greatness. And I started making declarations about the Word of God to him every day.
He goes on to suggest that his son is destined to save freedom in America, and even Brody called Cruzs political career a thing of God.

(14,732 posts)and raised Catholic until adulthood, joined Castro but then left Cuba before the revolution, converted to Mormonism here in the US (when it was convenient) and has now converted to Protestantism? Certainly has the courage of his convictions. That makes him pretty convincing.

(9,109 posts)The last few years have convinced me that Cuban-born right-wingers have issues concerning both Fulgencio Batista and Fidel Castro that they've never worked out, and that they project all their fantasies onto the current president of the United States, who hadn't even been born when Batista fled Havana and went into exile. Papi Cruz is a case in point.

(24,324 posts)There certainly is something very deep there. I never thought of that as a possible cause..

(9,109 posts)Fulgencio Batista, like our US President, was born of racially-mixed parentage. When Batista returned to power in a military coup in 1952, he presided over a kleptocratic economy and very corrupt, authoritarian political system where money talked and where much of Cuba's economy was under control of US businesses. That was such a regime that young Papi Cruz fought against in the late 1950's.
Fast forward to the 2000's. Papi Cruz, like many aging Cuban emigres, now throws his political support to a party that is equally kleptocratic in nature and accuses President Obama in so many words of being another Fidel Castro, because Obama is of mixed race (gasp) (Incidentally, I believe Fidel and Raul are white guys) and because President Obama, like the young Papi Cruz, opposes corrupt government by kleptocracy.
Anyone else see the irony?

(24,324 posts)And I find your view of the Batista/Obama thing interesting....
Why, if Papi fought against Batista and the 'kleptocracy.' would he be against a president also fighting against a kleptocracy? Or do you really think it is more the racial thing?
