Related: About this forumPoll: Many Americans Believe President Obama is No Different Than a Killer Whale
http://www.forwardprogressives.com/poll-many-americans-believe-president-obama-is-no-different-than-a-killer-whale/Recently, the Sheridan Heritage Endowed Endeavors Publication polled Americans on a few questions related to President Obama. And as it turns out, about 20% of the respondents polled believe President Obama is no different than an orcamore popularly known as a killer whale.
...snip...
Staggering! Until I found this poll I never realized just how many similarities there are between President Obama and killer whales. Its no wonder why many Americans fail to see any differences between the two or believe that theyre exactly the same.
But of course, there was never any poll done by the Sheridan Heritage Endowed Endeavors Publication where Americans claimed that they believe theres absolutely no difference between President Obama and a killer whalebecause it doesnt exist. Nor was there any poll done where 20% of the people that responded believed President Obama and killer whales were exactly the same.
...snip...
But President Bush didnt:
Improve our economy8 years of his policies crashed it
Find, and order the killing of, Osama bin Ladin
Save the American auto industry
Reform student loans
Pass landmark health care legislation which gave Americans with pre-existing conditions coverage (some for the very first time)
Reform credit cards
Pass Wall Street reform
Bring our country out of one of the worst recessions since the Great Depression
Repeal Dont Ask Dont Tell
Publicly endorse marriage equality for same-sex couples
Expand stem cell research
Pass the Lilly Ledbetter Act
Pass the Hate Crimes Prevention Act
Do more to push this country toward green energy alternatives than any President in history
Preside over the largest reduction in year-to-year deficits since World War II
Create nearly 7 million private sector jobs in his first 5 years in office
Just to list a few of Obamas bigger accomplishments. There are many more.

Obama could have become a transformational President, he chose not to. He has not been all bad, don't get me wrong, I was just looking for more out of him than the lessor of 2 evils!

(11,064 posts)The "I made it all up" is from the author of the article.
The lengthy "... there was never any poll done by the Sheridan Heritage Endowed Endeavors Publication where Americans claimed that they believe ..." is not an admission of the author of the article that he made it all up.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,295 posts)Really? It matters who the person that made it up was, and the fact the the OP clearly says it was made-up is not so important?
Meh. I'll believe you when you say you read the 3rd paragraph. Thousands wouldn't.

(3,163 posts)Did the OP read that there was no such poll the same place he read the poll because the poll was written as a joke? Or did he read the poll, believe it and then later discover elsewhere that it was fake? It's not clear from the language he uses in his post. The OP doesn't say "the poll was a spoof," and he even goes to a new paragraph before saying that there was no such poll.
He writes it the same way he would describe a despicable piece of evil propaganda which had been debunked by others, when it was actually a spoof which was disclosed as a spoof in the original presentation. That's a pretty slick bias in writing.
And, it's been almost six years since Bush was in office. Sooner or later we need to let go of that and start living in the present. We need to start dealing with the actions of the president and legislature we have and thinking about lies ahead. Bashing Bush may feel good, but it isn't going to win any more elections.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,295 posts)That's fucking ridiculous. He used that paragraph that said it was. He used a paragraph from later on.
You call that a slick bias in writing? Fuck, have you actually read articles that contain spoofs before? For that matter, did you really read the OP and the article? It's difficult to believe, from your comments.

(3,163 posts)He said "Of course there was no poll..."
That is exactly what I would say if I read a conservative hit piece and bookmarked it for research, did the research and found out the hit was false, and then wrote a piece dcrying the false hit. I would use the exact same words, "Of course there was no crime..."
If he knew the piece was a spoof, and intended the readers to know that the poll was a spoof, then he should have said "Of course the poll was not real, it a spoof." It looks like he was trying to make it appear that someone had made a false attack on Obama. Maybe that was his purpose, maybe not, but that certainly was a not unreasonable interpretation of his wording.
You clearly did not read my response, because I certainly did not say that I thought he did not lknow it was a spoof. And reading the article has nothing to do with the way I interpreted his phrasing.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,295 posts)This is what makes me think you haven't read the OP and the article. You don't realise that everything in the OP is a straight copy of a paragraph from the article. The OP includes one of the paragraphs that says the poll never existed. Is it that you needed it repeating, because you are unable to pick that up from one paragraph - and you were unable to read the original article?
JayhawkSD
(3,163 posts)Actually, I had not realized that the post consisted of nothing original, was exclusively portions of someone else's thinking posted without context. Lazy at best, and decptive at worst. I would have responded differently had I realized it. It would have been considerably less complimentary.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,295 posts)You've been here 2 years. Don't you realise that a huge number of DU threads do just that? What did you think those words 'snip' mean?
"Actually, I had not realized that the post consisted of nothing original"
So you didn't bother going to the linked article. Who's lazy, again?
"Deceptive"? What a complete load of bullshit. Maybe you mean that you didn't bother reading the paragraph that said the poll was made up, you didn't bother following the link, and you instead made up a story about the DUer not having read what he/she copied to DU, although the paragraphs have obviously been selected, since they are not contiguous.
