Ron Paul to headline September ‘anti-Semitic conference’

Former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) is being billed as the keynote speaker at a September conference sponsored by the Fatima Center, which one civil rights organization calls “the single largest group of hard-core anti-Semites in North America.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center’s Hatewatch blog noted on Tuesday that Paul had reportedly accepted the speaking engagement at the Fatima Center’s September “Fatima: The Path to Peace” conference in Canada.

“All speakers share one thing in common: a keen understanding that the nations of the world suffer profound disorder, that evil and shocking immorality are on the rise, that war and violence steadily increase, that the stability of our entire social order is at stake, and that a solution to the present chaos is of utmost necessity,” a statement from the Fatima Center said.

Doesn't sound anti-Semitic to me one bit.

Unless you can provide quotes from the Fatima Center that are anti-Semitic, not simply critical of Israel, most people will assume that the label is again used to STIGMATIZE any group or person that criticizes Israel.

The International Fatima Rosary Crusade, known popularly as the Fatima Center, takes its name from Fatima, Portugal, the place where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to three peasant children in 1916 with a series of revelations. The center was founded in 1977 by Father Nicholas Gruner, a Canadian who became obsessed with Fatima after an Italian priest told him that he had a special calling to promote devotion to the Virgin Mary. The following year, Gruner launched The Fatima Crusader, a quarterly that Gruner claims now has some 1 million readers. The publication has carried anti-Semitic articles such as the 1992 piece, "The Program of Christ Against the Plans of Satan," which denounced what it saw as Jewish "naturalism" and blamed Jews for putting "the Christian state in danger." The Crusader also has staunchly defended the work of Father Denis Fahey, a hard-core anti-Semite whom it called "brilliant." In an interview with Catholic scholar Michael Cuneo, Gruner accused a fellow radical traditionalist, E. Michael Jones, of being "secretly a Jew" who was "planted in the American Church to confuse Catholics and sow hatred against people like myself." The Fatima Center heavily promotes a conspiracy theory about the Vatican allegedly working to hide the so-called "Third Secret of Fatima" from the faithful. (Among other things, the theory accuses Pope John XXIII of making a blasphemous pact with Moscow that prevented the Vatican from denouncing communism and has resulted in Satanism flourishing "inside … the Vatican itself.&quot In 1995, Gruner was ordered to report to his bishop in Italy, but did not; as a result, the Vatican suspended Gruner from his priestly duties in 2001 (a lesser sanction than excommunication). Gruner owns a share of Catholic Family News, helped publish the schismatic book We Resist You to the Face, and is a regular speaker on the radical traditionalist circuit. In 2005, for instance, Gruner told an audience at the annual St. Joseph's Forum conference that Masons -- by which he meant the Jews -- "sacrificed their babies to the pagan gods." Gruner also rubs shoulders with hard-line Holocaust deniers, selling his wares at a 2006 conference of the anti-Semitic Barnes Review.

Fuck Ron Paul, and his pathetic apologists.

I get sick of people calling groups/people anti-semitic simply because they criticize Israeli apartheid or racism.

http://mondoweiss.net/2012/12/chancellor-falsehood-criticizing.html

Dirks’ response is disturbing not just for how it distorts the past. It is perhaps even more alarming for what it portends for the future. The new Chancellor of UC Berkeley is walking into a situation in which the California State Assembly has passed a bill that equates defense of Palestinian rights and criticism of the policies of the state of Israel with anti-Semitism (Bill HR 35, a nonbinding resolution); he is walking into an institutional context in which his boss, the president of the University of California system, was apparently involved in commenting on and drafting that very same bill (see Center for Constitutional Rights letter to UC President Yudof, PDF); he is walking into a political reality in which several Title VI cases are pending against schools in the UC system, accusing them of fostering a “hostile” learning environment for Jewish students; and he is taking charge of a campus in which Arab, Muslim and other students advocating for Palestinian rights are being targeted by specific Zionist activist groups for creating a “campus climate” that is “anti-Semitic and hostile to Jewish students” (see CCR letter to Yudof).

The newsletters weren't written by Paul. He should have ended the publication, but there wasn't anything Anti-Semitic in them.

In the video below it sounds like Paul not only disagrees with what may have been written in the Newsletters, but wants to implement policies that would Equalize civil rights, specifically as they pertain to unequal targeting of Black Americans by the justice system.

1. The "Paul didn't write those" excuse was a flimsy cop-out in '08 and is just pathetic now...HIS name is on the newsletters, so HE takes editorial responsibility...

2. Of course Paul is going to say the *proper* thing as a presidential candidate talking on national TV...

the thread doesn't even have anything to do with the Newsletter.

Hell I don't even like Ron Paul, however I think organizations that demonize antiwar activists, which the SPLC has, don't have a place in civil discourse.

And since I'm being attacked on this thread, I'm just going to knock down every one of the lies posted here.

If you have a motivation to spread a message DO IT WITH THE TRUTH OTHERWISE people will think you are as crazy as Rense or L Ron Hubbard.

Of course Paul is going to say the *proper* thing as a presidential candidate talking on national TV...

Seriously, he went for years with his name stuck on those newsletters and never once bothered to see what kind of material was contained in them?

Do you REALLY believe a grown ass man who is holding a seat in Congress would never look to see what material he was putting his name on?

You might choose to be that naïve, but I'm gonna go with the much, much more likely scenario that Paul never anticipated how unacceptable the racist views he was endorsing would eventually become and one day he woke up and realized that he needed to play stupid about the newsletters.

Fuck Ron Paul.
