The Dream Defenders departed Tallahassee this morning for Washington, DC to take part in the 50th Anniversary of the historic march on the National Mall.
Roughly 50 members of the same group that staged a 31-day occupation of the Florida Capitol shook hands and hugged before boarding the full-sized motor coach in the parking lot of Bragg Memorial Stadium at Florida A & M University.
Dream Defenders Executive Director and FAMU graduate Phillip Agnew said he was not surprised by the buzz of excitement from despite the 16 hour ride in front of them. Agnew will have two minutes to speak on Saturday to thousands in front of the Lincoln Memorial before the first march on the Mall.
"I'm thinking I better not screw it up," Agnew said with a laugh. "I've only got two minutes to fit it all in but I'll do it somehow."
Agnew is also set to speak for another march on Wednesday along with President Barack Obama.
