Related: About this forumBooker asked if he's gay and answers what does it matter
I don't even know why he's being asked that question to be honest. Just because he's in his forties and single well I'm older than Booker and I'm also single with no kids and no I'm not gay either. if someone asked me that question I would punch them in the face not that I have any issues with gays I have a brother a niece in the Army and a uncle who's a minister who all are gay http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2013/08/cory_booker_gay_rumors_addressed.html#incart_most-comments

(27,461 posts)i'm not a fan of Booker but that's a good answer and I don't remember hearing anyone at his level answering such a question that way.
Contrast with the people saying Obama is a Muslim. That could have been answered "so what if he is?" I don't remember any Democrats answering that way, if they did, then kudos to them, just like kudos to Booker.

(23,388 posts)I'm not wild about any of the religions of the book personally, but no need to be skittish.

(24,412 posts)We have freedom of religion in our country. So what if the Obamas ARE Muslim (though the RWNJs attacked him mercilessly for his *radical* Christian pastor of course.....)? The Constitution EXPLICITY FORBIDS any "religious test" for office.

(32,003 posts)then yes you have deep issues with gays.

(32,003 posts)Why, because you think it is some terrible insult? You have deep issues with gays. But go ahead and punch away because you will be in jail where people who attack other people should be. (Although anyone on the internet who likes to talk tough is almost always a weakling in real life).

(1,698 posts)Only African Americam politicians are asked for documentation to prove citizenship, sexuality. This is just another example of prejudice. It makes me sick.

(52,161 posts)Brown of California was rumored to be gay back in the 70's before he publicly dated Linda Rhondstat. Lindsay Graham of SC is continually linked to being gay. As a 40 plus single guy I have been directly asked by students if I was gay. It is just plain bs to say only blacks get asked that.
madashelltoo
(1,698 posts)Were Brown and Graham called these things during their campaign efforts? I know what "they say" about them too, but they did not use their sexuality as an election torpedo. He's not asking Booker about his sexuality for general knowledge or a potential hookup. I call bs on your bs.

(52,161 posts)Another example is Mayor Koch of New York, another is Rick Perry of Texas. Larry Craig was repeatedly called gay, truthfully, it turns out.

dsc
(52,161 posts)of course only black people have this issue. Never in the history of the universe did people disparage gays until it was time to insult black people, then people started hating gays. BTW here is a link to Koch, who doesn't appear to be black to me, having been called gay, in a political campaign, in 1977. http://gothamist.com/2013/02/01/ed_koch_forgave_mario_and_andrew_fo.php but of course, it is all about insulting black people as no one ever hated gays before now.

(24,412 posts)I wonder if Lonegan is aware that there are already several openly gay men and women already serving in Congress and in statehouses all over the country right now? I think that, as of the last election, there is even an open bisexual in Congress and transgender persons are likely not far behind. I would expect that eventually we will have an LGBT POTUS. Lonegan is desperate and behind the times IMHO. *smh*

(38,187 posts)That seems like an awfully violent reaction to a simple question. Why would you violently attack someone for simply thinking you might be gay? Do you consider it to be an insult or something? If you do, you actually DO have issues with gay people.
