Federal caseload too heavy, more judges needed, Tymkovich tells Senate subcommittee

An increasing federal caseload demands more federal judges be appointed to the bench and current vacancies be filled, federal judge Timothy Tymkovich told the Senate Judiciary Committee subcommittee on bankruptcy and the courts in a Sept. 10 hearing.

From fiscal 1991 to fiscal 2012, filings in district courts have risen by 39 percent, with civil filings increasing by 32 percent and criminal felony cases by 67 percent, said Tymkovich, who chairs the Judicial Conference Committee on Judicial Resources.

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.), who heads the subcommittee, and Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), who heads the committee, co-sponsored legislation (S.1385) that would create 91 new federal judgeships in two federal circuits and 32 new federal districts across 21 states to help lessen the caseload on individual judges. The last comprehensive judgeship bill passed in 1990 and added 85 new judges.

"The lack of additional judgeships combined with significant growth in the case, though, has created enormous difficulties for many courts across the nation; but it's reached urgent levels in at least five districts," Tymkovich said.

Hmmm...
There is NO way in hell that the Republicans are going to agree to vote to increase the number of judicial seats - UNLESS first there were to be a Republican president in the White House who would be the one appointing all of those new judges.
Obama/Reid most of the time can barely get the Republicans to vote on nominees to fill the currently vacant seats.
So, 'there is NO WAY IN HELL' that the Republicans are going to let President Obama appoint 91 additional new judges!

1. Republicans obstruct all the apointments for years & keep trying to cut the number of positions.

Americans will die of old age before any type of Justice one way or the other, happens with our under staffed Federal courts.
