(Reuters) - A trio of Tea Party-backed U.S. senators threatening to stall a bill to fund the U.S. government ran into a wall of resistance Monday from top Senate Republicans, including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
In statements issued Monday evening, McConnell and the second-ranking Republican, John Cornyn of Texas, made it clear that they would not support the tactics of freshman Senators Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Marco Rubio, which would have increased the odds of a government shutdown on Oct 1.
The move, while highlighting growing rifts among Republicans, did not eliminate the possibility of a shutdown, however. Indeed, all signs on Monday still pointed to a frantic last-minute showdown that will determine whether or not the U.S. government stays open next week as a result of Republican efforts to scuttle "Obamacare," President Barack Obama's health care law.

(1,957 posts)is how absofuckinglutely far these assholes are divorced from reality. They play the sequester game like it's a game and the common guy struggling at the bottom pays the price by having his pay cut 20%.
They cut the lifeline this guy might be able to use to hang on. On top of all that they fuck up the work environment so badly that the only job the guy might be able to find (assuming he doesn't want to commute to fucking bangladesh) won't even pay him that amount of money and he'd lose his benefits anyway.
Seems to me that the first cut should have been made to the capitol building maintenance. Let them go without toilet paper for a while or scrub their own shit.
No wait...they'd just move their meetings to some 5 star hotel.
And they're ALL assholes....ALL of them. Like they're playing for points.

(11,785 posts)(preferably in an area where they're not recognized) to work a minimum wage job for a month. Start 'em out with the possessions/housing/healthcare, etc., a typical minimum wage worker has and let 'em struggle. It still wouldn't be the same, as they'd know their time on the bottom of the heap is severely limited, but it might open a few eyes.

(13,877 posts)I support that position...please, sir, stand with it and see it out to the end...and their demise. Because if they don't F#@& us this time and we/you blink, they'll find an equally clever vehicle to do so later.
