A new group bent on unmasking leftists in the media has its first targetMSNBCs racial extortionist, Rev. Al Sharpton. David Freedlander talks to the leader of the rights answer to Media Matters.
A group of conservative activists, tired of what they see as a persistent and little remarked liberal bias in the news media, are set to begin a series of boycotts aimed at advertisers who sponsor what they see as left-wing networks, outlets, and journalists.
On Sunday they announced their first target, Rev. Al Sharpton, the civil rights leader turned MSNBC talk show host whose PoliticsNation has grown in influence and audience since making its debut two years ago.
Sharpton is a racial extortionist who has instigated racial animosities, violence, and division in America for the last forty years, write the boycotts organizers. In better times, Sharpton would be stigmatized and condemned for the damage he has done. But today he is a primetime host on MSNBCthe charter cable news network for NBC News, and a favored outlet for the Obama administrations spin doctors.
The boycott is part of Truth Revolt, a new project by the David Horowitz Freedom Center, a right-wing foundation that has focused on what it calls liberal bias in Hollywood and on college campuses. Truth Revolt, which says its purpose is to unmask leftists in the media for who they are, destroy their credibility with the American public, and devastate their funding bases, is led by Ben Shapiro, an editor-at-large for the conservative website Breitbart News and the author, most recently, of Bullies: How the Lefts Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America.

Who told them that? Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck?

(1,820 posts)the David Horowitz Freedom Center and this Truth Revolt organization wrap themselves in democracy in order to "unmask leftists . . . for who they are, destroy their credibility . . . and devastate their funding bases."
They're not protecting anyone's rights at all; they're not confronting intimidation or the managerial state.
These organizations are nothing but self-serving advocates.

(135,425 posts)I hate to tell these idiots who are initiating this 'cable boycott,' but a lot of cable advertising is sold by bloc of time, and some of it is sold with a "You're guaranteed x placements in x bloc on these days of the week, and x other placements of opportunity.' It's like the ads on DU--the admins don't pick them, Google does.
Al Sharpton isn't a Rush Limbaugh, doing personal lead-ins to commercials, he doesn't even know what's being advertised when he goes to commercial. Also, what people are seeing in Seattle is NOT the same as what people are seeing in St. Louis. Cable companies sell their own advertising, as do satellite programmers--it's why you see the PLEASE STAND BY card during the breaks when watching MSNBC on the internet if you have mobile access.
I think those Breitbart assclowns should worry more about their upcoming lawsuit, and less about a scattershot approach to assorted cable carriers where one can't predict what the commercial is going to be from one moment to the next!

Funny, they used to dismiss MSNBC as the station nobody watched. Now they're calling it a "flagship." And those big bullies are pulling out the BULLY whine, too.
That's pretty much all the evidence that anyone needs that the right is on the ropes.

(32,056 posts)Wikipedia's article about Sharpton notes that he's been in civil rights activism since the '70s but only came in the national spotlight by the '80s.
This shows how clownish this group is. But then again, the people behind it include well known useful idiots David Horowitz and Ben Shapiro, what's new?
