Even if they *are* stupid?

I alerted on this, the email suggested I wasn't the first alerter but apparently a jury voted 2-4 to accept your statement.

Shameful.

It's used ALL the time on SiriusXM'S the URBAN VIEW.So I don't know why this would be considered offensive on DU now if it was the other word that rimes with it then that would be a different story

If you thought it was inoffensive, you wouldn't have tried to censor yourself.

7. And on their site they're pretty much only "UNCF."

They decided years ago that spelling out that "N", viewing it as an anachronistic embarrassment.

Similar reasoning leads us to think that since NAACP still uses the word "colored" it's also a perfectly fine term for referring to African-Americans.

Heck, OPs on DU in the last few years have been pilloried for citing South African sources that used the word "colored", even though in South African English it refers to those whose genes were in South Asian a century ago.

10. I can't see the skin color of the DUer behind a post, but it really shouldn't matter.

If something is going to be acceptable because of the skin color of the person saying it, but in general unacceptable from a different race, then it *probably* should only be used when the full context of the comment is available -- aka, in person or with people who know you in the flesh. At least, IMHO that would be the prudent course of action. On DU, I treat everyone like they have no skin color at all, and alert based on the same community standards for everyone.

A black guy with solid academic credentials who panders to rightwing racists by saying publicly all the things they scream in the privacy of their cars while listening to the Limbaugh show.
