New Republic: Last Days of the GOP

http://www.newrepublic.com/article/115134/gop-death-watch-final-days-republican-party

I once wrote about lobbying, and this week I called some Republicans I used to talk to (and some that they recommended I talk to) about the effect the shutdown is having on the Republican Party in Washington. The response I got was fear of Republican decline and loathing of the Tea Party: One lobbyist and former Hill staffer lamented the “fall of the national party,” another the rise of “suburban revolutionaries,” and another of “people alienated from business, from everything.” There is a growing fear among Washington Republicans that the party, which has lost two national elections in a row, is headed for history’s dustbin. And I believe that they are right to worry.

Sarah Palin is trying to rally mainstream America back, but they are too extreme and everyone saw that.

Goodbye, go form a third party and help the Democrats.

if the GOP goes down, they have it coming. they have acted like cowards in the face of Tea party bullying, the ignorant, racist, Fox news loving sobs who have spewed lies and hatred for President O. with all our flaws we Dems courageously turned from our racist past under Harry S. Truman and embraced the cause of civil rights, and in doing so lost our historic base, the South. Yes, we screwed up badly in Viet Nam, but we also repented and nominated one of the finest men every to be nominated, Geo. McGovern, probably not the wisest choice for a candidate, but a war hero and a man of integrity who was defeated by arch criminal. Obamacare may not work, but it was a brave attempt to address a great need. In overplaying their hand the GOP may give us an opportunity to replace Obamacare with something better--medicare for all. God bless our president and leaders in Congress, people of courage and integrity.

although I wish McGovern would have held a national press conference the day Nixon resign and crowed "I told you so" "You dumb fucking voters, go eat shit for not listening to me! I was right and you were wrong."
