2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forum"We Have a Remarkable and Unprecedented Opportunity" - MoveOn
I'm really not a big fan of electoral politics, but the way the GOP has acted, and their willingness to destroy even the scraps that we have in terms of a social safety net - it's too important to let go unpunished. It's critically important that we send a message to these reactionaries, and get the House of Representatives back into the hands of the Democratic Party, so that, at the very least, something can be accomplished.
Hi <Fantastic Anarchist>
We have a remarkable and unprecedented opportunity, and we've got to seize it, so I hope you'll read this whole message.
Gallup reports the Republican Party's approval rating has sunk to 28%the lowest rating in the history of Gallup polling.1
Independent voters give Democrats a nine-point lead.2
And polls recently commissioned by MoveOn show that if elections were held today, Republicans could lose control of the House of Representatives.3
We know from history that in big moments like this one, MoveOn can help power a wave of electoral victories for progressives.
Perhaps the best example of MoveOn's power in an off-year election was 2006. As Republican popularity plummeted due to Iraqand Bush's plan to privatize Social Security outraged seniorsMoveOn members rode a wave of anger and disgust to end Republican domination in Congress. That year, volunteers made 7 million phone calls, organized 7,500 house parties, and launched 6,000 in-district events.4
But the truth is, we are 100% funded by small-dollar-donors like you. All too often, we get a wave of donations at the end of an election cycle. But we really can't plan the game-changing electoral strategy MoveOn needs without your early support.
So I hate to ask so strongly, but this is too important not to be direct: Don't wait until next year to help out with electionsplease help out right now, today.
Can you pitch in $3 now to help fund MoveOn's elections work?
Yes, I will help out.
Thanks for all you do.
