John Edwards' Mistress Rielle Hunter Apologizes In Blog Post

The mistress in John Edwards' notorious extramarital affair expressed remorse Tuesday for her part in the infidelity.

In a blog entry on The Huffington Post, Rielle Hunter offered an apology.

"I am very sorry for my wrong, selfish behavior," Hunter wrote. "Back in 2006, I did not think about the scope of my actions, how my falling in love with John Edwards, and acting on that love, could hurt so many people. I hurt Elizabeth and her kids. I hurt her family. I hurt John's family. I hurt people that knew Elizabeth. I hurt people who didn't know Elizabeth but loved her from afar."

Hunter contended last year that the 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee's marriage with Elizabeth Edwards, who died in late 2010, was already in disarray when she began the relationship.

If she indeed felt sorry, she'd keep this private instead of taking it public and getting her name in the paper yet again. Does she really think she does Jack and Emma Claire any favors by continuing to have this issue be publicized?

People can and do change, and someone should certainly apologize for their behavior if they feel they should. But to do this in a public forum is merely dredging up yet again a difficult situation and painful feelings for a lot of people.
