Related: About this forumBoehner said this bill would not pass the House! It passed 285-144. WTF?
There are only two possibilities. Either Boehner is a friggin liar or he doesn't know shit from shinola. Which is it?

(478 posts)Thankfully Boehner brought up the bill and it passed with Democratic House support.
Boehner's action, bringing up the bill, was good for the country, but will prove bad for Boehner, politically.
I believe Boehner understands he will face a fierce primary fight in 2014 for this.
I don't expect Boehner will be Minority Leader in the House in 2014.
I'm not even sure Boehner will be in the House in 2014.
I can only shudder what Tea Party candidate might take Boehner's place.

(338 posts)It dangerous that Republicans fear the Tea Party more than an economic collapse. It should have been a majority of the Republicans.
I give credit to Boehner for allowing enough of his people to side against him. He helps to protect them from their cowardice by not pressuring them to do the right thing.
You will notice no one will call them out, not even Peter King will name the Reps who did this. The GOP will move on to fight another day with a slightly weakened Tea Party caucus.

(22,000 posts)Had a clean CR been put to a vote at any time during the shutdown it was pretty much a given the D caucus was going to vote for it so it was a matter of whether 17 or 18 Rs would cross party lines and vote for it. From news reports I heard as many as 20 to 30 saying they'd vote for a clean CR. That would have left plenty of margin of error had a few Ds defected. So in reality the shutdown could have been resolved in a day had Bonehead cooperated.
