2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumNEVER FORGET
We've just lived through one of the ugliest, and for millions. one of the most traumatic events in our history. The fact that many are worried about "the next time" suggests the Democrats next move. NEVER FORGET should be the theme of every elected House and Senate member who appears in the news, especially on TV. It should be hammered on a daily basis...NEVER FORGET the Republicans refused to conference on the budget for 6 months, NEVER FORGET the Republicans caused a shutdown of the government, and NEVER FORGET that the Republicans brought us perilously close to a worldwide economic shitstorm.
Democrats seeking office for the first time also need to pound away at the stupidity, arrogance and selfishness of Republicans whose actions truly border on treason.
I don't want to hear any current Democratic office-holders praise Republicans for their YES votes tonight. Now is not the time to play nice and conciliatory or to waffle. January and February deadlines are fast approaching, and this horrendous and unnecessary debacle needs to stay in the public consciousness relentlessly in the coming months. Too many self-serving zealots are currently serving in our government, and they need to be unceremoniously swept out at all costs.

We need some bumper stickers and t-shirts now to remind people.
How about - "I Survived The Government Shutdown 0f 2013 - But My Congressman Won't"

(9,298 posts)Ed Schultz spoke passionately about the $24 billion this insanity cost. How today we're suffering from a "hangover" that he hopes continues until November 2014. I couldn't agree more.
Party of fiscal responsibility, my ass!
