"(IN) Homophobe Lawmaker Who Blasted Girl Scouts Gets Only 1 Donation "

Gotta share, hope it's not a duplicate.

http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/2012/04/30/homophobe-lawmaker-who-blasted-girl-scouts-gets-only-1-donation-since/

"FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — An Indiana lawmaker who drew criticism for calling the Girl Scouts a radical group that promotes abortions and homosexuality has received only one campaign contribution in the months since that controversy.

The Journal Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/JuPIjM ) Rep. Bob Morris’ latest campaign finance report shows that between Jan. 1 and April 13 the Fort Wayne Republican raised $5,000 in a single donation from the Northeast Indiana PAC for Better Government."

In traditionally uber-conservative Indiana, that's what's known as a VERY LOUD HINT that dude's talking out his ass.

Of a grocery store in my area, and the little girl looked very nervous. I am sure that these remarks have hurt a lot of young girls who believed that their group had community support and intimidated them.

My feeling is that if the GS supports gays and women's rights, I'm for them even more, but I didn't bring it up. My kid and I smiled at them and bought some cookies. The GOP cultists are shameless in their attacks on people of all ages.

I asked the leader if she noticed a difference in sales this year? She said they seemed to be up. I mentioned the mean video posted on FB by the girl in CA. She said she hadn't heard of it. The guy next to me buying cookies said "There's just too much hate in the world".

Amen to that.

Glad to see that your region also supports these folks in helping girls to support their groups. As far as more red states, I don't know what's happening. The ruling in TX mentioned on another thread was encouraging.

Molly wanted to join the Brownies and couldn't because all the local troops were full. Kathy being the great mother we all could ask for stepped up and became a troop leader. In three months they propably sold 300 boxes from a handful of members. It wasn't just onlie and listener sales, they were out on the street and in the parking lots selling their butts off.
Hell I'd do the same thing but they would look at me as some old perve and want a background check. My Moms over 90 now so I don't think she would do that well with a gaggle of ten year olds.

It's something I've had to just get used to around here. Our state makes the news for the worst reasons anymore. It's embarrassing to be 'from' here and can't wait to get the F out of here.

I'm an Indiana educator who incorporates tolerance into virtually every literature unit I have in my 8th grade English class. Rather than abandon our state to the idiots, you should work to educate the ignorant.

I hear ya...really I do. It's reverse culture shock from living in Europe for a few years with like minded liberals who think that socialism works rather well there. They have health care and public transportation the envy of the states. After coming to Indy 2 yrs ago, I was ready to settle in but husband's job is about to end and we will end up somewhere. Right now we don't know where we'll go.

I'd like to meet other liberals, especially educators near by. Are you in Indy too? If so, send me a PM and I'd be happy to give some of my time to help in the classroom.

I'm in the middle of reading Howard Zinn's "The People's History of the United States" and I wish I had read it in school. It was published after I finished and now I actually have the time to read all 700 pages! Some sections disgusted me and some just made me cry.

Pleasure to meet you.

I don't think Indiana is as red as commonly perceived. Recently we have just had a lack of good charismatic candidates for Congress and state offices (in comparison to Gov. O'Banion, Lee Hamilton, Birch Bayh, and Vance Hartke). Evan Bayh's abrupt retirement didn't help either. The recent GOP scandals and the fact that the disgusting Mike Pence has such a high profile may help boost Dem chances this year. If we go for Obama again in November it may convince the rest of the country (and ourselves) that Indiana is a purple, or even aqua, state.

Pence as Governor would be a BIG "bucket of suck"! It would probably even make me want to have Daniels (if it had to be a Republican) for another term............

I'm hopeful that Republican overreach (i.e. Planned Parenthood defunding, anti-gay constitutional marriage amendment, and esp. "right-to-work&quot and union mobilization will help at least give us back the Governor's mansion and/or the House (BTW why can't Dems ever seem to capture the Senate? )
