Report Fuels Prospect Of 2016 Elizabeth Warren Run

By MAGGIE HABERMAN | 11/10/13 7:01 PM EST

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), described by progressives and Washington insiders as the person best situated to challenge Hillary Clinton from within her own party, may not let the uphill nature of such a contest keep her from running, according to a new report.

A lengthy Warren profile by Noam Scheiber, a senior editor at The New Republic, leans into the prospect that the ambitious newly-minted senator might not be deterred by the repeated refrain, “But you’ll lose if you run.” The story paints Warren – whose image management is matched by her populist conviction – as Clinton’s “nightmare” scenario, just five years after she was upended by President Barack Obama.

She has an immense – I can’t put it in words – a sense of destiny,” Scheiber quotes a former Warren aide saying. “If Hillary or the man on the moon is not representing her stuff, and her people don’t have a seat at table, she’ll do what she can to make sure it’s represented.”

“Yeah, Hillary is running. And she’ll probably win,” the aide added. “But Elizabeth doesn’t care about winning. She doesn’t care whose turn it is.”

Warren was among a large group of Senate Democratic women who wrote a letter to Clinton recently urging the former Secretary of State to run, and she has repeatedly said she will not be a candidate in 2016. Most Democratic insiders have a hard time seeing Warren running against Clinton, who remains the overwhelming favorite, even with some angst from the base.

Warren would win handily, for she is on the side of the truth of how things work than anyone else at this time.

It would be a work of art to see the dismantling of the Old Boy system - supported by the candidate 'First Woman' President, Hillary.

... either outright lying or totally demoralizing the base.

The risk is that Hillary will try to come off as a progressive, and People will believe her. Then as POTUS she would implement more of the corporate agenda.

They just would love to drum up an internecine fight among Democrats, and they're starting early. And many here will fall for it.

Why Elizabeth Warren as the counter to Hillary Clinton? There are a slew of other potential candidates out there, with a lot more experience than EW and a lot more years spent as Democrats. There will indeed be a real contested primary in that sense. In fact, we don't even know officially if HRC is running.

Why do we always fall for former Republicans?

Disclosure: I didn't vote for Hillary last time, so don't look at me as some kind of devoted fan. But I'm seeing this ridiculous Elizabeth Warren scuttlebutt as the 2016 equivalent of the left's sanctifying of John Edwards. I didn't buy him as a progressive candidate, or even a viable candidate. And I'm not jumping on the bandwagon this time, either.

Hillary (with an a) grew up in a conservative household, but by the time she was a junior in college she was supporting Eugene McCarthy, and organized a two-day strike to recruit black students and faculty after MLK's assassination.

Elizabeth (since we're only using first names for women, apparently) was fully 46 years old when she finally dropped her Republican registration in 1995. I'd already been a registered Democrat for a quarter-century by that time. I'm a year younger than Elizabeth.

Hillary's baggage will be the issue. Warren's newer perspective and demeanor might give her a shot to take it.

I have nothing against either person. Both have served our country well. Whomever decides to run will run.

I for one am willing to wait to see who the candidates are and what their stances are rather than pledge blind allegiance.
