Illinois GOPer Running For Gov: I Want To Lower The Minimum Wage

DANIEL STRAUSS – JANUARY 8, 2014, 12:11 PM EST

An Illinois Republican gubernatorial candidate has a counter-proposal to minimum wage hike proponents: let's lower it instead.

Businessman Bruce Rauner, who polls have found to be leading the pack of Republicans seeking the nomination to challenge Gov. Pat Quinn (D), told a local radio station that he wants to see the state's minimum wage of $8.25 an hour lowered to $7.25 an hour.

"I will advocate moving the Illinois minimum wage back to the national minimum wage," Rauner told Illinois's WGBZ-AM radio station on Tuesday. "I think we've got to be competitive here in Illinois."

Quinn and the Obama administration have both called for an increase in the minimum wage. Obama wants to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour and Quinn has called for raising the state's minimum wage to $10 an hour.

Honestly, I wish him luck. Running on a message of "I want to pay people who make little even LESS" is courageous. Monumentally stupid, Scrooge-like in its lack of empathy, and guaranteed to fail, but courageous.

governor so he can appease his millionaire business friends.

Here's the logic, he states lowering the min wage will increase jobs.

Which means, big businesses will hire more people to work at a lower wage, than the present wage.

Repuglicans want to do this nationwide, they want unions busted, and cheap labor, it fits their meme, this is what repuglicans are about. I sincerely hope voters recognize the smoke with mirrors tricks.

Raumer made $53M last year.

+1 to the OP.

5. The Rauner Backpeddle

Almost a month ago, Bruce Rauner pledged at a Downstate candidates’ forum that if elected governor he would slash the state’s minimum wage by $1 to make it equal to the federal rate in an effort to make Illinois more economically competitive.

But on Wednesday, a day after his pledge came to light, the rookie candidate was forced to engage in a round of damage control and mea culpas that included voicing qualified support for raising the federal minimum wage to up to $10 an hour and tying Illinois’ rate to it.
“I made a mistake. I was flippant and I was quick,” Rauner told the Tribune as he continued a bus tour through southern Illinois.
“I should have said, ‘Tie the Illinois minimum wage to the national wage and, in that context, with other changes in being pro-business, I support raising the national minimum wage.’ I’m OK with that,” said the Republican from Winnetka.

I hope Illinois voters stay confused about his message, I'm not a Illinois resident or voter, and I'm as confused as hell.

Which lie should I believe now?
