2016 Postmortem

JUST got back from "American Hustle", the blockbuster based on the ABSCAM events of the late 1970's (man, wasn't that a hell of decade). NJ politics at its finest. Reminds me of the Christie mess going on now insofar as "Well, that's how it's done in Jersey."
Superb acting and a wonderful twisty ending that'll blow your mind. See it. A great trip back to the wild 70's for anyone who lived through those times, and an intro to them for anyone who didn't. A real morality tale and philosophical look at human life, the influence of money, the line between wanting to do good at any cost, and what is real and not real in the world, and how do we know?
Great multi-layered film.

(12,041 posts)David O. Russell is one of my favorite directors, he obviously works really well with actors because the acting is always top notch in his movies.
Awknid
(381 posts)It looked so sleezy in the trailer. But I was blown away! Amy Adams was incredible (and Jennifer Lawrence too!). I lived as a young adult then, so it was fun seeing the styles and decor. I actually moved to NYC 3 yrs after that, 1981. It was a different place then than now. People were ruthless. It was not far fetched that someone would scam people the way Christian Bales character did! That guy is what we all thought New York was lke then.
I loved the movie!

(13,570 posts)that you lived through those times right in and around that time period and saw it up close. I was a kid growing up here in Maine in the 70's but remember those wild, wild times on the coast in the summer. Endless partying which I lived vicariously through the adults around me.
Yup, great film. VERY well acted. Christian Bale and Daniel Day Lewis are among my favorite actors. Those two Brits can do anything. And all the other actors were great too. Just a terrific movie. Very well done.

(16,386 posts)Especially for those of us who remember the 70s. I was young although I do remember the scandal. Gotta go now to put a mug of water in the "science oven" for some hot tea.
