Heckler Interrupts Supreme Court to Protest Citizens United
And heres exhibit Z why there should be cameras in the Supreme Court: a heckler interrupted proceedings on Wednesday to denounce campaign finance law and the high courts ruling in the Citizens United case. Witnesses in the room say the justices were largely unfazed and the official written transcript of the proceedings left his remarks out.
Again, there were no cameras in the court to capture what was going on, but this protestor reportedly shouted Money is not speech! and Overturn Citizens United! before police removed him from the room. There havent been many outbursts in the history in the Supreme Court; this is the third reported instance in the past two decades.
The heckler has been charged with violating federal law, because apparently its that serious a crime to lob loud threatening or abusive language in the Supreme Court Building.

'The man interrupted proceedings in the patent case by shouting slogans like "Money is not speech," "Corporations are not people" and "Overturn Citizens United."
The man, identified as Noah Newkirk of Los Angeles, California, was protesting the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission ruling which cleared the way for increased independent corporate and union spending during federal elections.
Police officers removed Newkirk after a brief scuffle. He has been charged with violating a law that prohibits "loud threatening or abusive language" in the Supreme Court building, a court spokeswoman said.'

No one said the oral arguments had anything to do with the Citizen's United - 'the outburst did'

(8,812 posts)2. The time stamp says it's from last October. What's up with that?
Did this really happen in the last few days? Or is it recycled footage from an earlier protest??
If the answer is the latter, why is it being portrayed as new?

Perhaps the time stamp is wrong?

(8,812 posts)4. I wish reporters would do their frickin' homework.
Feb. 26, 2014's SCOTUS oral arguments appear to have nothing to do with Citizen's United or anything related.

(36,974 posts)6. Must be two video put together - the outburst was today (Wednesday)
There are three different time stamps on the video.
I think the part from today (Wednesday), the outburst part, has the wrong time stamp date on it.

(8,636 posts)7. Too bad there (probably) won't be protestors in the SC for the McCutcheon vs FEC decision
A decision on this could come down this week. In a worst case scenario, it would remove all, repeat all, limits on campaign contributions by rich individuals and corporations; this may be applied to all elections, right down to the local level.
A decision on McCutcheon may come down as early as this week.

(22,651 posts)9. will be interesting to see who supports removing all limits.
I bet C. Thomas supports as many free vacations, 'political charity' mixers, at Koch resorts as possible.

The guards will even remove people who cough 'to loud'.
