Please check this out. Yes, it is 17 minutes. But it is worth every second. This guy, a logger from northern Maine running for Congress named Troy Jackson, gave one ass-grabber of a speech at last weekend's Maine Democratic Convention in Bangor. You'll stand and cheer, and you may even cry too. One of the very best ever. Please check ALL of it out.

(111,261 posts)It is so good to hear somebody who knows what it is to work damned hard for shit wages talk about it. He's a great speaker. I sincerely hope Maine wakes the hell up and elects him.
Not since Clinton have I heard anyone capable of making a speech like this and sell it completely.

(16,984 posts)...is that there is an utter blindness to the fact that ordinary Americans are being told they ought to struggle to get by, that the normal order of things is afflicting the afflicted and comforting the comfortable. This speech kicks that to the curb.

(5,075 posts)Great story. I hope the people of Maine can send him to Congress. Whatever state he comes from, we need more of that in Washington.

(36,057 posts)a 300 acre potato farm in Presque Isle. I remember living near Houlton for half a year in a cabin with an iron stove and an outhouse; also had many happy memories of my childhood visits to grandpa's farm, helping with potato picking, playing in the barn, swimming around Bar Harbor, and staying near Rangely Lakes and Sugar Loaf Mountain areas. My last trip there with my mother, I took her up through the border to New Brunswick and over to Nova Scotia. I've still got family there.
Thanks so much for this post! I hope your guy wins!

(9,298 posts)WOW! That was a great speech - "We built that ladder." Sending it to my dad who lived in Portland and Saco - he'll love it, too.
Thanks for posting...really hope he pulls it out.

(1,805 posts)I'm going to keep my eye on this race. So many times the everyday folk like Troy run with heartfelt honesty and too often the guy/gal with the most money beats them. Damn, that was good!!!

(13,570 posts)We're lucky that the other person running, Emily Cain, is also very good. She's a strong progressive too and a ferocious campaigner, so we'll have a good candidate no matter which wins, but I have to say that Troy Jackson speaks from his guts like no one I've ever seen in politics. It's refreshing.
