Montana Democrats choose teacher as Senate candidate

Montana Democrats choose teacher as Senate candidate

GREAT FALLS, Mont. — The Montana Democratic Party selected 34-year-old Amanda Curtis on Saturday as its candidate to replace Sen. John Walsh in the race to maintain Montana's long-held Democratic seat in Washington D.C.

Curtis now has less than three months to convince Montana voters to choose her over Republican U.S. Rep. Steve Daines of Bozeman.

"This election could decide who controls the Senate, and I don't mean the difference between Republicans and Democrats," Curtis said. "I mean the difference between the millionaires and the middle class."

Curtis, a math teacher from Butte, and Dirk Adams, a rancher from Wilsall, were the two candidates party leaders chose during a historic nominating convention held in Helena on Saturday to decide who will replace Walsh in the race.

Walsh was not a real go getter about his campaign. I got the feeling that he wasn't thrilled about being appointed to the Senate position in the first place.

Amanda is intelligent, young and eager to help the middle class, college students and Montana in general. She posted daily videos when she was in the last State Legislature, just to keep everyone back home informed on what happened during the day.

Montana Democrats need to step up and help get her message out. I hope Amanda does frequent videos again during the campaign.

NOT!!!

We need a Democrat in that seat. So pitch in a few bucks and put up a yard sign.

I wouldn't write her off, but I would say she's a longshot. Had she be nominated in the first place, she would have had a lot more time to campaign.

Had she had an extra few months to run she might get better name recognition and be able to raise more. The long shot horse does win the race occasionally, so you never know.

More time would be good, but right now so many people are not paying attention to any of this. Some times the election is ignored until the last few weeks, especially the mid-term election.
