2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWe are fucked.
When folks think Rand Paul will carry out a Democratic agenda....they are foolish. He'll be taking his marching orders from the NRA, the Republican/Koch establishment and that is all she wrote. We are doomed. Pot? No probl em...get as high as you want. Just don't get in the way of Republican progress. I would expect that we'll see new laws that limit Democrats from voting....you don't think that Republicans want a 2 Party system, do you?

(53,475 posts)I'm sure some (many) traditional Democratic voters could fall for Paul's rhetoric, but I've not seen that here.

(37,540 posts)Smart people here might understand t he diff, but the general public might not. IF Rand gets to pretend he's left of HRC, we may see the last GE where the Left/Democrats matter.

(45,086 posts)The one's we need to worry about are the uninformed young voters and independents. They are the ones who will fall for his bullshit because he is appealing to them with what he is saying and they don't know him for what he is. If the Democratic leadership doesn't do something to appeal to them.. Mission Accomplished. But whose mission?

(4,748 posts)We need Democrats that are willing to be an opposition part to the corporate owned GOP. But we don't have much of that.

(29,047 posts)Some DUers are saying Paul is to the left of HRC on some issues, and some of these issues resonate with younger voters.

(22,651 posts)Young Paul, this time republicans will use young-paul to reduce D votes.
RW is very good at changing a couple percent of votes here and there. It's always republicans who change district maps and gerrymander. The deception adds up to plenty of squeekers and sometimes wins.
Must be fun? to be so very, very wealthy one can turn an entire country into a political 'game'.

(18,634 posts)Nowadays most Republicans have absolutely insane views on just about everything so we forget that it hasn't always been that way.
Normally, in the past at least, there could be a few things we agreed on in the midst of a lot of things we didn't.

(101,318 posts)It's amazing. It's not necessarily surprising that there's not much 2014 election talk in GD - you'd expect Ferguson to dominate, and there are some international topics, like Ebola, Ukraine, Gaza, IS and so on that will come up a lot. But I thought it would all be in here. Being British, I don't look at the Politics 2014 forum much - the races this year just matter to me in terms of who gets control of the Senate (the House looks lost already - gerrymandering). But this forum has tumbleweed blowing through it. It has had under half the number of posts in it in the last 90 days that the Religion group has had. It's a minority interest group.
It seems DUers have lost interest in electoral politics expect for the presidential election. And I fear that will be symptomatic of Democratic activists in general.

(429 posts)I've never seen anyone say that Rand freaking Paul will carry out a progressive agenda.
But... neither will Hillary Clinton, that is the problem.
Rand Paul isn't the solution obviously (nobody is saying he is). the same people who are strawmanning those who correctly point out that Rand is on the right side of some issues - those same people also seem to be Hillary fans - go figure.
