2016 Postmortem

Yes, I too have been inundated by DCCC fundraisers, but this is just a one question poll. Takes a few seconds, if you want to provide input:

Oh, and let us know what issue you chose.
My number one issue is with the DCCC asking me what my one issue is. I am not a Republican and can handle more than one issue at a time.

(68,644 posts)I unsubscribed from them and the half-dozen affiliated groups that seem to have gotten my contact information from them.
It was a one question survey, but I don't imagine that they'll take the results particularly seriously unless they can find a way to push whatever agenda and candidate they've already decided to promote.
I'll be throwing my support to individual actions and progressive candidates this time around.

(7 posts)Hey all - my name's Brandon and I'm the digital director over at the DCCC. Thanks for sharing the survey. Looking forward to getting in tomorrow and flipping through the results.
And if you have more than one big issue you'd like to tell us about, please feel free! We just did #1 issue so we could try to sort out the biggest issues for folks.
(And when I took the survey, I said citizens united and election reform too!)

(68,644 posts)but I entered false contact information because I'm not happy with the way communication with me has been handled in the past.
I appreciate that you want some form of filter to prevent RWNJs from skewing results, but as I wrote above, I just was getting far too many emails.
I hope the DCCC will listen to the people and not just the rich and powerful people.
PS, now that you're a member, it might be interesting to take your top responses and, without giving away your results, post a DU poll with choices, including "other".

(27,509 posts)This is an issue that Obama, John Holdren, and John Kerry have spent much of their career on.
They only have two years to accomplish what they can.
And we know that Republicans will do whatever they can to sabotage things for the 2016 election.

(3,595 posts)I don't care about the sex or sexual orientation of the candidate. I care about their values.

(522 posts)I should have been more clear. Incompetent women are running for office, all over this country, but most of them will lose to men.
You couldn't know that I was thinking of Amanda Curtis who is running for the Senate for Montana. She replaces Lt Gov Walsh who can't even fake enthuasium for the job.
Next time I'll be more specific.

(23,664 posts)A little late isn't it? They've been calling me for years now, to the point of harassment, and never once did they even hint at wanting to hear my opinion regarding what issue(s) they should stress. Mostly what they wanted was money.
They have left some very good candidates high and dry in the past and spent a lot of money electing some marginal democrats.

(17,142 posts)That was my response, too.
We can take it from there.

(102,376 posts)I see no hope for dramatically enacting climate change legislation, immigration, gun control or a myriad of other issues (including modifying Obama care to give a true public option--or better yet single payer)

(6,602 posts)... how can we effectively show the public that voting for Republicans is not in their own best interest, nor is it in the best interest of the country.
If we can communicate that message (there are hundreds, thousands of examples to illustrate it) & significantly reduce the number of voters who allow themselves to be manipulated & mislead by Republican lies & BS ... then ... & only then ... will we make real progress in this country.
Any other issue is subordinate to that. We need to significantly reduce the number of votes that are cast based on lies & BS, & significantly increase the number that are cast based on truth & reality.

(7 posts)We're big believers in targeted get-out-the-vote field programs with local organizers, backed up by ads calling out Republicans on their extreme right-win records. (and then we let our Democratic candidates speak for themselves in terms of what they'd do if elected).
But curious to hear folks' thoughts -- how do you think we should investing your donations to make sure we're getting the truth out to voters? (especially voters that don't follow politics regularly)

(20,176 posts)I am a staunch economic liberal. I believe in Keynesian economics; abandoning the haphazard pursuit of FTAs like NAFTA, KORUS, TPP, et cetera; increased regulation of business and Wall Street; higher business taxes; taxing capital gains as income; economic stimulus to put Americans back to work; trade protectionism; organized labor; expanding social services and the safety-net.
I don't believe in the Third-Way, Clintonism or give a damn about being economically-moderate. Run liberals everywhere!
