My number one issue is with the DCCC asking me what my one issue is. I am not a Republican and can handle more than one issue at a time.

2. They won't listen, they just want our contact information. My issue: Election Reform.
Mon Sep 1, 2014, 07:25 PM
Sep 2014

I unsubscribed from them and the half-dozen affiliated groups that seem to have gotten my contact information from them.

It was a one question survey, but I don't imagine that they'll take the results particularly seriously unless they can find a way to push whatever agenda and candidate they've already decided to promote.

I'll be throwing my support to individual actions and progressive candidates this time around.

3. Thanks for sharing our survey

Hey all - my name's Brandon and I'm the digital director over at the DCCC. Thanks for sharing the survey. Looking forward to getting in tomorrow and flipping through the results.

And if you have more than one big issue you'd like to tell us about, please feel free! We just did #1 issue so we could try to sort out the biggest issues for folks.

(And when I took the survey, I said citizens united and election reform too!)

4. Mea culpa. I said "Citizens United"....
Mon Sep 1, 2014, 07:40 PM
Sep 2014

but I entered false contact information because I'm not happy with the way communication with me has been handled in the past.

I appreciate that you want some form of filter to prevent RWNJs from skewing results, but as I wrote above, I just was getting far too many emails.

I hope the DCCC will listen to the people and not just the rich and powerful people.

PS, now that you're a member, it might be interesting to take your top responses and, without giving away your results, post a DU poll with choices, including "other".

17. The #1 issue is what Obama was unanimously awarded the Nobel Prize for.
Tue Sep 2, 2014, 04:07 PM
Sep 2014

This is an issue that Obama, John Holdren, and John Kerry have spent much of their career on.
They only have two years to accomplish what they can.
And we know that Republicans will do whatever they can to sabotage things for the 2016 election.

5. Electing more women to Congress.

Women are half of this country's population and not represented enough at all levels of government.

11. I disagree with this premise. Sarah Palin is a woman.

I don't care about the sex or sexual orientation of the candidate. I care about their values.

19. Ms. Palin was the last person I was thinking about

I should have been more clear. Incompetent women are running for office, all over this country, but most of them will lose to men.
You couldn't know that I was thinking of Amanda Curtis who is running for the Senate for Montana. She replaces Lt Gov Walsh who can't even fake enthuasium for the job.
Next time I'll be more specific.

6. Now they want to know
Mon Sep 1, 2014, 08:12 PM
Sep 2014

A little late isn't it? They've been calling me for years now, to the point of harassment, and never once did they even hint at wanting to hear my opinion regarding what issue(s) they should stress. Mostly what they wanted was money.

They have left some very good candidates high and dry in the past and spent a lot of money electing some marginal democrats.

7. Election reform: fair, non-gerrymandered voting districts; and no voters disenfranchised

That was my response, too.

We can take it from there.

10. I too said Citizens United but...

with recent attacks on the very basic equalities for women, I want to see the ERA resurrected and passed....There is an attempt among some of the women Senators and Reps to try to enact extension language that would allow states to reaffirm their original support and thus only need one new state iirc. Sadly, we have our work cut out for us because even young women don't realize what they are not equal to men in the eyes of the law. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/03/scalia-women-discrimination-constitution_n_803813.html The equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution does not protect against discrimination on the basis of gender or sexual orientation, according to Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

I see no hope for dramatically enacting climate change legislation, immigration, gun control or a myriad of other issues (including modifying Obama care to give a true public option--or better yet single payer)

14. I believe the #1 issue facing Democrats is ...
Tue Sep 2, 2014, 09:04 AM
Sep 2014

... how can we effectively show the public that voting for Republicans is not in their own best interest, nor is it in the best interest of the country.

If we can communicate that message (there are hundreds, thousands of examples to illustrate it) & significantly reduce the number of voters who allow themselves to be manipulated & mislead by Republican lies & BS ... then ... & only then ... will we make real progress in this country.

Any other issue is subordinate to that. We need to significantly reduce the number of votes that are cast based on lies & BS, & significantly increase the number that are cast based on truth & reality.

15. Different Question: What's the #1 investment we should make?
Tue Sep 2, 2014, 12:47 PM
Sep 2014

We're big believers in targeted get-out-the-vote field programs with local organizers, backed up by ads calling out Republicans on their extreme right-win records. (and then we let our Democratic candidates speak for themselves in terms of what they'd do if elected).

But curious to hear folks' thoughts -- how do you think we should investing your donations to make sure we're getting the truth out to voters? (especially voters that don't follow politics regularly)

18. Economics.
Tue Sep 2, 2014, 05:06 PM
Sep 2014

I am a staunch economic liberal. I believe in Keynesian economics; abandoning the haphazard pursuit of FTAs like NAFTA, KORUS, TPP, et cetera; increased regulation of business and Wall Street; higher business taxes; taxing capital gains as income; economic stimulus to put Americans back to work; trade protectionism; organized labor; expanding social services and the safety-net.

I don't believe in the Third-Way, Clintonism or give a damn about being economically-moderate. Run liberals everywhere!
