2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumMAP: HOW THE GOP COULD LOSE THE HOUSE IN 2014
New PPP surveys in GOP-held House districts, commissioned by MoveOn.org Political Action and conducted in the wake of the government shutdown, show Republicans are in serious danger in 29 of the 36 districts polled--making it clear that Republicans could easily lose control of the House if the next election were held today. Democrats must net 17 seats to reclaim the House. The surveys challenges the conventional wisdom that gerrymandering has put the House out of reach for Democrats and indicates the shutdown has significant electoral implications.See the link for the map.

(1,754 posts)I really hope we can get Andy Barr out of the KY 6th. There's so much focus on the senate race that I don't hear a lot about this one but I think Elisabeth Jensen looks like a fine candidate. Of course I think anyone would be better than Barr.

(21,768 posts)Democrats don't seem to making an issue out of this.
I doubt Karl Rove would miss this opportunity, but for some reason the Democrats don't seem to be interested.

(11,175 posts)Most people aren't political junkies on the level of DU (or even Free Republic). Millions of voters simply don't remember much about the shutdown. The media mantra of being "balanced" -- meaning that truth and falsehood are given equal prominence -- has left people blaming the shutdown on "partisan gridlock" rather than on Republican obstructionism.

(28,552 posts).... I think people are sick of a do-nothing congress and they know which party is most to blame for it.
I've been thinking for a while now, based on governors and special elections races, that the idea that the Repubs have this locked up is bullshit.

(3,577 posts)In Wisconsin, the long-term Republican in WI-6 has retired since then and a real wingnut won the primary last month. He has a good Democratic opponent, but it is a rather gerrymandered district. We'll have to see what happens. GOTV absolutely!

(16,399 posts)You think they'd try it now? You think they'd DARE even mention it in a Presidential cycle?
They live and die by the low info voter with short fucking memories to pull their bullshit.

(48 posts)I do not have cable or satellite, so you need to tell me:
I envision a series of national Democratic Party commercials which would illustrate the crazy, extreme things that Republican politicos have done or said. The tag line, "Why would anyone vote for these clowns?"
Is this being done, and if not, why the H*ll not?
Are even the individual candidates in your areas doing this regarding their GOP opponents?
If not, what is the Democratic Party afraid of?

(94,572 posts)There MAY be prospects to pick up seats, but if you look at the background of the polling, the voter is given a choice of the Republican or "his Democratic opponent" (unnamed). Unfortunately, "his Democratic opponent" won't be on the ballot. Show me real head to head data and I'll consider it.

(22,000 posts)I wouldn't put a lot of stock in those numbers.
RCP has some data for the House seats, but not a lot:
