Gov. Tom Corbett just got two pieces of news that might reassure Republicans worried that his reelection campaign was in deep trouble.
First, Harper Polling released a survey Thursday that showed Corbett trailing Democrat Tom Wolf by 11 percentage points, a much tighter race than two other recent polls found.
Second, the Republican Governors Association announced it gave $3.5 million to his campaign coffers a possible indication that the national GOP has not written off Corbett. RGA had already given Corbett $1.8 million.
The survey of likely voters by Harper, a Republican polling firm, found Wolf with 52 percent support, to 41 percent for Corbett. Seven percent were undecided.

...campaign manager Mike Barley trumpeted the Harper polls relatively good news in an email to supporters, saying Corbett is closing the gap! and asking for contributions.

(13,259 posts)Tom Wolf is going to have a hard time. By "politics," I mean money, media, and dirty tricks.
I live in PA and have not seen or heard a single thing from Wolf since he won the primary. Corbett is all over everywhere doing his best to smear Wolf any way he can think of. If Wolf thinks he can win this by just being Not-Corbett, I think he's mistaken. And he won't win it by being a very good guy with the best intentions and rational discourse.

(3,496 posts)Corbett has spent millions of dollars slinging mud at a virtually unknown candidate and he's still trailing by double digits in a Repub leaning pole. It's almost comical how bad things are for Corbett (to the point that I almost feel sorry for him). The more money the Repubs sink into Corbett the less they have to spend elsewhere.

(12,322 posts)Tom Terrific had no sympathy for all the working Pennsylvanians who lost insurance when he dropped Adult Basic.
He had no sympathy for women who are basically being raped by machine when he pushed for forced vaginal ultra-sounds. "They can just close their eyes."
Corbett had no sympathy for the children Jerry Sandusky raped when, he, AG Tom Corbett, did nothing to investigate the info given to him.
The man had no sympathy for the children whose educational systems he dismantled in PA. He had no sympathy for the qualified teachers and other professionals who lost their jobs.
He has no sympathy for property owners on tight budgets and fixed incomes whose real estate taxes have significantly gone up because he refused to tax frackers. Frackers, by the way, who fully expected to BE taxed.
In fact, the only people Tom Corbett has shown any "compassion" towards are the frackers and drillers and oil and gas companies. He has given them carte blanche to destroy Pennsylvania, all while saying he was creating jobs-----meanwhile, any jobs generated have gone to people from out of state.

Yeah - time to celebrate.
Maybe if the undecideds don't come out in big numbers I can only lose by nine.
Yippee.

(24,347 posts)11 points is good news now? Seriously? And if the Republican polling firm found him down 11, how far down is he REALLY?

THEY don't bother to disguise it, so how come the OP doesn't mention it, or compare it to other polls?
Plus, while an 11% deficit is not insurmountable, it's bad for a Republican governor who has done a bad job in a state that leans Democratic.
Corbett is still out as governor after the November elections. Why this OP is on here and not on Freepers Creepers is puzzling.

(3,496 posts)The Repubs have way too much influence given PA has more Ds than Rs. It will be nice to start reclaiming the state and hopefully get rid of some of the deadwood in the state government. I can only hope we can sweep out more that just the Gov this fall. It's also kind of funny that being down by double digits is seen as good news, don't ya think?
