AK Senate race - Alaska Democrats ask Maryland tax officials to review Sullivan's tax breaks

http://www.adn.com/article/20140905/democrats-ask-maryland-officials-review-sullivans-tax-breaks

The Alaska Democratic Party has asked Maryland tax authorities to review tax credits received by Alaska Republican U.S. Senate Dan Sullivan while he lived in a Washington, D.C., suburb.

The party’s chairman, Mike Wenstrup, wrote the Maryland taxation department’s director last week to ask for a review of what the party says are $4,500 in tax breaks that Sullivan and his family received between 2006 and 2008 when they purchased a house in Bethesda and declared it their “principal residence.”

Sullivan also voted absentee in Alaska in the November 2008 general electIon and said he had been an Alaska resident since 1997 when he registered his U.S. Senate candidacy in May.

Wenstrup’s letter was first reported by Alaska Public Media. A spokesman for Sullivan called the request for a review “more campaign nonsense from the Democrats.”

<snip>

To distinguish him from Dan Sullivan, Anchorage's mayor who is running for Lieutenant Governor, this Dan Sullivan has alternately been called "Afghan Dan" (because of his affiliation with Condi Rice) and "Ohio Dan" (since that's his home state and where much of his funding is coming from). I guess we can add "Maryland Dan" to the list. A carpetbagger by any other name...

There was just the one against McCaskill that was dismissed.

There's probably no way to get this dismissed without copping to tax fraud. The collecting tax breaks on one primary address while voting in the other district may be a problem too...if they find a voter registration from the Bethesda address (I assure you they're looking for one now too), he's probably going to have to hold his election night party from the ballroom at Cook Inlet. (Do AK state detention facilities have ballrooms? I'm guessing no, actually.)
