2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI have $100 to donate to the senate races this week. Where should I spend it?
This isn't some sort of test. I really do have an extra $100 to donate and I'm asking here where it should go. I have my local races taken care of, so this one is completely extra. Where can I do the most good with my money?
I wish it were more, but it's where I am right now. Help me spend it in the right place, please. I'll donate it on Monday but I'll be checking back here off and on over the weekend to see what DUers have to say.

(130,959 posts)Sell me. I want to hear why people here think the candidate is a good choice. I have some in mind already, but I want to hear from others as to who they think is a good choice and why the money will help them.
On edit: I'm not being a jerk. I'm not up on all the races like I should be and I want to know who may be in the most need and is close. Just to be clear on that.

You're sticking to Senate runs, I take it?

(130,959 posts)a very important 'get' for Dems if we can do it, and she's been doing pretty well.

(19,565 posts)I'm trying to help a close race make it and this is what I get here? If you've nothing of importance to add maybe it's best to just not say anything?

(45,251 posts)I'd give it to your own state Democratic party to GOTV. Or to the state Dem Party of any purple state. Getting Democrats to the polls will help the most Democrats.
If you have your heart set on donating to a Senator, here are some close races.

(19,565 posts)Locally I've got it covered. I guess I missed the time frame to do good outside of my state. Money is tight for me and this was an unexpected extra I wanted to share where it would help the most. What a bummer.

(45,251 posts)That is not what my post said at all.

(19,565 posts)I just wanted it to have more impact. I do understand what you meant, though. I was afraid I'd missed the window already.

(22,651 posts)what is your home state? Nevada?
Here's a Nevada person who is always, for many years! vs the republican Federal & state gov. policies.
Laura has taken several court cases to Federal court, vs Salazar, vs DOI, vs BLM. She has won some cases for OUR First amendment right. For Freedom of the press to report and observe our Gov. She fights for OUR public lands, many times fights alone. Currently, at the same time she also fights breast cancer.
Our Politics, our laws Federal and State, OUR Gov. & this solo Heroine. Any of my 'extra money' would go here. The Federal court cases are listed on her website.

I understand you said 'senate races', imo $100 you could buy pizza for a couple of workers or pay part of their phone bill in your local town.

(3,163 posts)Invite a couple of friends. Too much money has already been spent on this mess, and more will only corrupt it further.
Seriously. We complain about Citizens United, and then we ask where we should send money to elections fir which we are not even constituents. That is the definition of the problem: the flow of money into campaigns from sources who cannot even vote for the principals. How is that not you offering to help buy an election?

(54,403 posts)Braley in Iowa, Grimes in Kentucky, Nunn in Georgia and Udall in Colorado.
If it's just two, Braley and Grimes.
But they're ALL important. I've donated to all of them. It is vital that we retain the Senate this fall. Some polls say we will. Others say no way. It's not clear which way it'll go. GOTV means everything, so I've given more than usual to DFA and the DNC this year, since Republican voter fraud and attempted disenfranchisement is at fever pitch this year. The more voters they eliminate, the better their chances are.
Take DFW's advice whenever you can.

(19,565 posts)I was torn between the four after reading up on the races and when I saw your post I went, why didn't I think of that?
I know it's a pittance, but we do what we can and in the end it all adds up. Thanks to you and everyone here for the great and helpful advice!

(54,403 posts)That's why every pittance counts!!
Thanks for the feedback!

(76 posts)This is a boring answer, but I would just suggested donating to the DSCC- https://www.dscc.org/-/donate They send the money to wherever it is needed most at the moment and they have a much clearer idea of exactly where that is at any given moment.

(16,646 posts)Go sign up at Elizabeth Warren's site. Soon you'll get plenty of emails suggesting where you can spend your money. Pick 10 different ones and send them $10. That way you spread it around, and you also demonstrate support for Warren and her policies. The more people that donate "through" Warren, the more power she has.
