Be sure and go to the polls and register your vote.
For one thing.. a whole lot of people on both sides might make that same assumption and stay home and your vote could turn the tide.. making a assured loss a win (in red and purple districts) or if you stay home in a blue district and a lot of other people make the same ASSumption.. a sure thing could be lost.
But above and beyond all that.. the sheer number of votes that will be counted party wise across the entire country.. makes an impression on congress on both sides as to where the country really is politically

(22,877 posts)who post in here.. the same I do.. and when we knock on doors, or phone bank, you will hear that complaint sometimes that they know their vote will not count so why bother.
When I have pointed out that maybe we cannot shift our district blue.... we can by our very preponderance of total votes make a difference.
Johnson County is going blue.. that is just a fact.. Plymouth County is going red.. (I live in the red district) pretty much a fact.. but when you combine our votes.. it becomes obvious that there are a LOT more of us than them.. in total.. and that makes an impact.
That has moved some people to get out the early vote..to be a part of that larger group effect..

(18,402 posts)The Senate races may be the ones that get all the attention here, but state and local races, as well as ballot initiatives, judicial retention questions, etc. are important.
So even if your candidate for Senate or Governor or House is sure to lose, still go out to vote for other candidates in other races, or important ballot questions in your state.
You should just always vote. It's your job as a citizen. Do it.

(111,270 posts)the more they realize they're going to have to spend a lot more money to keep him in office 2 years from now. Driving up the costs for Republicans and their sugar daddies is a good thing and nothing drives up their costs like a close race.

(54,403 posts)It always costs me about $9 to do it from here due to the big heavy envelope, but I do it every time. Dallas is very good about getting those to me and I get them on their way back there ASAP.
I know Wendy is a long shot, and Cornyn will sail back in, but I voted for every Democrat I could that was on my precinct's ballot. The longest journey starts with a single step.

(2,188 posts)In districts where one candidate is polling 80% or even 90%, there is no chance he or she will lose. Many NYC Congressional Democrats win with this percentage. Eliot Engel and Nita Lowey are not losing. Even Charlie Rangel, with all his problems in 2012, still got 91% of the vote. I do agree however, that we should always vote. Never stay home!
