ONE Democrat embracing Obama on the campaign trail - and he's winning BIG

It's infuriating to see all these Democratic candidates shying away from Obama and all the things the Dems have accomplished. What are they afraid of? Obama's black skin? The GOP being mean to them? It's unbelieveable.

Only One Dem. Senate Candidate Had The Guts To Embrace Obama And He’s About To Win Big

The best – and sadly the only - example of a senate candidate with the courage to actually stand with the president rather than pretend he doesn’t exist is Michigan’s Senate challenger Gary Peters. Far from apologizing for Obama, Peters asked the president to attend a rally and give a speech standing alongside him on the very last week before the polls open.

In many ways, Michigan is the ideal testing ground for whether or not a candidate could reject the Obama Myth and still be competitive. A purple state with a strong liberal base as well as many conservatives, it would be easy to go the Clay Aiken route and ignore the liberals and desperately court moderate conservatives. Instead, Peters went with the president.

As the crowd cheered, Peters — a Wayne State graduate — welcomed Obama’s appearance, and stressed the bailout of the auto industry.

“Thank God, our president stood up for American workers,” said Peters, who also pointed out that his election could determine control of the Senate. [source]

Obama, perhaps happy to flex his rhetorical powers in front of a crowd rather than shilling at a fundraiser for a one governor or another, gave a roaring speech. He spoke so passionately that half way through his voice nearly went out – and he kept going.

“They don’t have an agenda for the middle class!” Obama shouted as a crowd of several thousand cheered. “They don’t have an agenda for Detroit! They don’t have an agenda for Michigan!”

The crowd, many of them who’s jobs are still around thanks to Obama’s actions to save the auto industry after the financial collapse, didn’t seem to find Obama’s presence off-putting. They were energized. The kind of energy that Maher noted Aiken lacked. These were potential voters who were fired up to vote.

The result of this mad experiment? Peters holds a massive 15-lead on his Republican opponent. When the dust has settled after Election Day, he may in fact be the only new Democratic senator going to Washington.

The last two Senate races in Michigan saw us winning by 20-30%.

It's hard to say that anything Peters is doing is working "Big"... It just isn't a particularly competitive race to begin with.

somehow I knew it would be Peters. Yeah, good on him for standing up. He's going to win.

My crystal ball is cloudy when it comes to Schauer, however. No idea how that one is going to turn out, but it worries me.

Michigan is shaping up to be the closest senate race the state has had since Stabenow took the seat from Spencer Abraham in 2000.

The liberals are already in his camp. He's going after the independents and the Republicans who are turned off by Renee Ellmers because she's apparently an unreconstructed asshole. If he has any chance of winning, it will be by walking that fine line. Clay is a progressive, but he's a progressive who wants to win a seat in Congress from a McCain/Romney district. I cut him a lot of slack. Maher was wrong on this one.

you can't win by constantly back-pedaling. Why should he be ashamed of Obama's successes? If he has some reservations -- as most Dems do about any president -- he can express those. But why be soft-pedaling Obama's successes?

If he doesn't want to emphasize the national agenda fine, but if he's asked a direct question by his opponent, if he hedges or dodges or looks shifty-eyed, he's dead meat in my opinion. He could turn anything against his opponent if he stands up for his beliefs and the Dems achievements. Then, he can quickly get back to his vision for this specific race.

I agree with Maher that refusing to respond to direct challenges from an opponent is like a white flag in a voter's eyes. It may be a red district, but a lot of so-called red voters are actually independents looking for candidates with a little grit to stand for something.

at least not as far as I know.
(In fact in the evolution of his political affiliation, he
cited the racism toward this President as being the
biggest factor. I believed him.)

with Obama and didn't deny it at any time. Even when asked during debates he said he didn't regret his actions.

YET, all we've heard from day ONE, that it's tied, tied, tied! I KNOW Repubs who can't stand Scott and say they won't vote for him. We do have a third party candidate, haven't checked his poll numbers today, but that may be who they're voting for. Also, some Democrats won't vote for Crist because he switched parties! What a slap in the face because he HAS supported Obama!

There are times when Democrats are so STUPID! When this state is so very close and we NEED every vote we can get, and when Crist has stood with Obama... Democrats just won't vote for him! It could very well mean that here in FL we will have to live with "THE ALIEN" for 4 more years and Repubs will pass horrible laws with a vengeance!

My stomach has been in knots for so long! I know Crist was pretty moderate before, and some Democrats aren't sure about him... but to let Scott win is insanity to me!
