What really scares the $#*! out of me is the budget.

Well, yes, the Supreme Court and other appointments, too, but...

with both houses of Congress the repukes could pass a budget that zeroes out any and all social spending. No more SNAP. No more Section 8. Etc., etc., ad nauseam.

edit: All Obama could do would be to veto it. Then they pass it again, he vetoes it again, and on and on ad infinitum -- until the whole place shuts down again.

I expressed the same sentiment below.

He loves him some "bipartisanship" and is usually more concerned about what the DC media is saying that what is best for the people of this country. All it will take is for one veto, and his heroes Chuck Todd and David Brooks and their ilk will "tsk-tsk" him and Obama will get the sads and then sign whatever other shit legislation they send to his desk.

Is the possibility that Obama won't veto all their bullshit legislation.

I can too easily imagine a scenario where he continually falls for some "Well, if I sign this then next time they won't do this/that/the other thing" or "...then they'll pass this other thing that I want."

He's way too consistently enthusiastic about being "bipartisan", especially on areas like education, Social Security, the Deficit, the budget, etc. for me to be confident in him using the veto as much as he should.

What you can look for with a Republican Congress and this Democratic president is where they have common positions. I see that in the so-called Grand Bargain area and in the trade deals that are being negotiated in secret. I expect the trade deals to be fast-tracked with an up or down vote and I expect some form of the Grand Bargain, probably close to the Catfood Commission recommendations.
