2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI hope for 2016 they try to motivate the Young people to get out and vote.
The core problem this election cycle was not getting young people excited to vote. For 2016 they need to get some younger candidates running and to run on legalizing Weed, making college affordable and stuff like that.

(14,733 posts)Can political parties invest in creating or sponsoring community centers for teens wherein they also provide classes that show just how much politics affects every facet of daily life, showing the kids just how important voting is? Teach them how to work in political campaigns, how to run them, how to meet the obligations attendant on running for office, and then channel them into poli-sci degrees with scholarships, with the goal of getting them into office after graduation?

(2,506 posts)The Dem leadership needs backbone and a move to the left where den values are and where they can draw a clear distinction between the deems and the repukes.
They need a 50 state strategy and they need to make their case on den positions.
Not hide from them so that a few of the dem insiders can keep their jobs.
Repeat it is not GOTV, it is get some leadership and backbone so there is something to vote for

(2,506 posts)The polling of the voters was clear they support dem positions. Best summarized I think by the Rachel Maddow priority list.
What is missing is leadership that will push that agenda, stand up and make the case for it on a continual basis, and take the offensive against the repukes.
Instead, we get weasil words, and running from the dem agenda.
So we have a dem party heading in the wrong direction (Turd way corporate sell outs), with a repuke party heading in even more the wrong way. Both parties are killing this country.
So if dems want to start winning elections they had better put up some candidates and positions worth voting for. That should have been the lesson of 2008, when there was no problem getting out the vote. Instead since then we have had nothing but repressing popular positions and retreat after retreat on dem positions. If the dem leadership can't make the case for the dem positions, or don't really believe in them, they should be replaced.
