"Thanks For Sidelining Obama, Guys!"

In their victory lap after taking over the Senate on Tuesday, Republicans are poking some fun at Democrats for their candidates' laborious efforts to distance themselves from President Barack Obama: Thanks a lot, guys!

National Republican Senatorial Committee executive director Rob Collins needled his opponents on Thursday, saying that Democrats had "sidelined their best messenger" by avoiding Obama.

"They were so focused on independents that they forgot they had a base," Collins said in a session with reporters assessing the election, according to CNN. "They left their base behind. They became Republican-lite."

GOP strategists said they were baffled that Democrats had focused on issues like abortion rather than making an argument about the economy -- and using Obama as a surrogate to do so.

I know, I know, this point has been made a bunch of times here on DU, but this time "they" are even saying it.

were plenty of positive things to run on and Republicans would have capitalized on that - not ran from it.

GREAT POINT. Listening to repubs advice will lead us into the bowels of hell. Just because the repubs claim you ran away from Obama, doomsday is near couldn't be sillier. Why is it the grand progressive Obama (sequester, chained cpi budget, fiscal cliff, signed snap cuts, no single payer, etc.) is the repubs solution to all our problems? Will anybody focus on the individual candidates platforms as a winning strategy without Obama. Any repubs guidance has to viewed with caution until the ulterior motive is revealed. Could it be they want dem support for Obama when he signs Keystone XL, TTP, TTIP, chained cpi, tax breaks for the rich and etc.. Is that the progressive agenda we want our 2016 candidates to run with. Just because someone put out the talking point that without Obama were doomed, doesn't make it true.

I know history predicted it but there is merit in thinking "running away from the guy who won the presidency twice" is a bad idea.

halfway between D and R.
Maybe they are actually looking for someone to say something they like. Not "well, I'm for it if you are and against it if you're not for it. I am half Dem and half Rep"

That is not what the middle is

For the last year and a half they blasted all over the news that the Dems have to stay away from Obama, until Tues night when they reversed course and played revisionists again saying oh they should've used him a lot more.
