How can you tell if you are a Democrat?

This is the 2012 Platform.. basically.. if this is what you support, and they will be writing a new one for 2016.. but if this is where your heart is.. if this is what you vote for.. welcome to the Democratic Party.. and make yourself at home.. if it is not what you can support than this is not the party for you.. Because this is who we are ..not a fantasy, not saints nor sinners..but people who are trying to make this a better country for everyone

1. Is There A Similar Document Available To Tell If You Are A Republican?......

The reason I'm asking is because I would like to give both to people and let them see the differences and where they line up behind either of the Party's. I'm convinced most people/voters & non-voters - don't know the difference and if they had the opportunity to see these differences between the two - they might realize that they are not aligned with one or the other based on - as you put it - where your heart is.

I think a lot of people have the wrong idea of what the Rethug Party supports and if they read what the Rethug Party supports - they would clearly see that they really aren't a Rethug.

This is something we need to exploit for the next election in 2016. We need to educate voters as to what each of the Party's stand for and let them see for themselves that they might be voting against their best interests.

2. Exactly.. we do not put enough emphasis on our platforms

And our platform is where our identity stems from.. that is what we stand for.. way too many personality conflicts and not enough dealing with reality.. for sure..I think if people actually read a party's platform, there would be a huge shift in attitude..

Does the progressive caucus have a platform? The platform you referenced is a little to general for me. People can relate better to specifics if they're simple and concise. For example, EXPAND SOCIAL SECURITY, remove the cap so millionaires pay their share and give everyone(retirees ?) a raise to a living wage of 20,000/yr . Then you get all retirees thinking, HMMMM, 20 grand/yr (a raise) where do I sign-up. Just saying expand social security, wouldn't people think HOW MUCH? If it's only $5/yr would they respond," It's been nice talking to you, but I've got other things to do". In this community we have so many great ideas that maybe a few with the organizational talents will put together a unified platform for all to consider.

4. That is the platform.. but if you are a Democrat

and you want to make your voice heard.. if you go to your state organizational meetings.. they send people to the state to work on state platforms.. that impacts Federal platforms.. By all means do that.. its a wonderful experience.. you will meet some great people.. make lifelong friends, but you will actually have your fingers in the pudding of what our party means.. Democrats can call themselves anything they wish, I am a liberal.. but there are a lot of conservative Democrats.. that is how they identify themselves.. the thing that unifies us is our platform.. The Democratic party is a big tent party.. everyone is welcome.. but we do unify with our platform.. and support individual representatives even if they are not of your state.. if they are reflecting more of your basic attitude.. Stand behind Bernie Sanders.. Stand behind Elizabeth Warren .. and also the down ticket canidates.. and that does not just mean money.. I am retired and money is a dear dear thing to me.. but write them.. let them know how much you appreciate the stands they are taking

10. unity implies we are all on the same page

I'm having some problems here. You say a big tent and I ask where are the limits? Do we welcome with open arms Ted Cruz types,Jim Inhofe types,George Bush types, Bobby Jindel types, John McCain types, Rick Perry types, etc. Because once they infiltrate our party masquerading as conserve-a-dems and take control, we are lost. We are big hearted liberals and sometimes we are blinded by kindness amongst evil.We must stand for something and understand the wisdom of our ways. It's not spiritually unsound to listen to someone screaming from the mountain tops that oil is God's way and responding to him that he may not fit in. If one proclaims that perpetual war will solve all our problems maybe we should reconsider his democratic application. Are you advocating with the big tent policy that all should be welcome even if they disagree with parts of our platform? If these people become dems, how do we unify with them? Is the rule of thumb 50/50 agree/disagree or 10/90 agree/disagree?

14. making wishy-washy specific
Fri Nov 7, 2014, 08:37 PM

The above platform I read is extremely wishy-washy. I'm assuming by your non-answer that you must adhere to 100% of the platform to be accepted as a dem. , which implies their are limits to your big tent policy. Are you suggesting that all conserve-a-dems are adhering to 100% of our platform? Can you point out to me which of our sitting dems are violating the "21st century government, transparent and accountable" platform principal. You say the camelion will be toast in 2 years, but I ask how much damage can be done in 2 years. Let's just keep our eyes open in the coming 2 years for that answer.

p.s. The song "Peacetrain" was one of my favorites in the 70's

15. You will NEVER get specifics, only vague generalities.

That way when you say sometime in the not too distant future "I didn't think Expanding Social Security meant chained CPI", you can be informed that you simply were not paying attention by the folks who will tell you " I knew that all along, it was made clear if you would have taken the time to read it". Same ol' shit...different day.

Mid terms kill us.. I wish we could get away from this cult of personality that gets people ginned up .. and get people excited about the platform.. and not the person.. that is where the power and possibilities lay.. in what we stand for

Now I'm completely confused. You're whole piece is to know the platform and then you can determine if you are a dem. Then you say we are a big tent, which is a platform we could never define because there are too many variables involved. Question; if a repub had a change of heart and ran as a dem in a highly dem district, got elected and within weeks changed back to a repub what would be your response?

Cannot talk around it .. under it.. over it.. it defines a Democrat.. people are free to call themselves what ever they want ..but if someone tried to hide their intentions.. got into office under the Democratic platform, and then decried it.. next election they are toast..

Maybe they purposely left that out so they could go buy some more canvas and make a bigger tent.
