Watch Out: Scott Walker Just May Shrug His Way Into The White House

It appears that Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin believes he can shrug his way into being the Republican nominee for president. Journalists are quickly learning that if you ask Walker to comment on any of the issues that are riling up the fundamentalists, birthers or other right wingnuts these days, Walker will be respond with his impression of a popular emoticon: ¯\(ツ /¯.

On the question of where he stands on the theory of evolution, Walker replied, “That's a question politicians shouldn't be involved in one way or another. I am going to leave that up to you.”

On the question of how he plans to handle ISIS: “That’s certainly something I will answer in the United States in the future.”

When asked if he thinks President Obama is a Christian: “I don’t know,” and “I’ve never actually talked about it or I haven’t read about that.”

We'll stop him, just as we've stopped all the other GOP presidential candidates: by making them show their flaws to everyone.

Walker has quite a few ways of avoiding questions and sticking to his talking points. Usually he brushes off the question and refuses to respond at all by saying something like, "I'm not going to talk about that" or "that's old news" or his latest, "I'm not going to play the gotcha game" (paraphrased). In debates, where he has to talk, he often avoids answering questions by repeating talking points which often seem unrelated to the original question. But he just keeps repeating the same thing in a confident, well practiced tone, but avoiding eye contact, until the questioner gives up.

There is one other element to this "shrugging" or non-answering strategy. When he's done talking, he clenches his mouth shut like a baby in a high chair signalling he is done eating. "Not opening this mouth again, so don't even try". Sometimes he even adds a head bob for emphasis. Here's the basic look:

Its a variation of the same playbook used for Shrub. As long as the press is as stupid on followup as they have been so far it will likely work for him with his base. This is a candidate who ferevently believes in his political future as guaranteed by the book of ALEC. He has no respect for anyone outside his political dimension since he does not expect to get votes form them anyway.

But the staggering amount of money backing him could be a problem. He uses the office of Governor of Wisconsin to prove to the big money people how far he's willing to go, and it's worked out quite well for his campaign. He is dismantling the state, and that really turns on the right wing billionaires. Brutal for the people of Wisconsin, but good for his ambitions.

Totally non committal to his opinions and "I don't knows"? You know he has an opinion on these subjects, and knows Obama is a Christian.

He won't go far. People will see right through this bullshit. What a con man!!! Personally I'd like to see him out of politics. And I feel sorry for all those people he f'ed over in Wisconsin.

That's a bad combination for pursuing the presidency. His failure to complete a college education gets thrown into sharp relief by such behavior. Suits me.

go over well with American voters. He can't claim liberal bias because Marquette is a Catholic institution, a Jesuit one at that! How is he going to play that in the General election if he is the GOP candidate? He had a low GPA too but the cheating is harder to swallow. It seems to me that people would want a president that their kids could look up to and admire. We are always telling kids that cheating is wrong and if you are found out, it will go on your permanent record.

Am I missing something?
