Martin O’Malley cozies up with Quad City Democrats
DAVENPORT — The quintessential American dream isn’t dead, and Martin O’Malley appears dead set on serving up his desired menu for how the nation’s political palette can be corrected.
On tap: raising the nation’s minimum wage, upping the threshold for overtime pay, massive reformation of Wall Street banks, embracing clean energy, universal pre-kindergarten programming and growing the Social Security base.
“Until we solve this problem, we cannot rest —as a party or as a people,” O’Malley, 52, told an estimated base of 300 Eastern Iowa Democrats at the 2015 Scott County “Red White and Blue Dinner” Friday evening. “Our nation’s future is at stake.”
He ratcheted up his criticism of Wall Street during the address that was live-streamed on C-SPAN, spending nearly 10 minutes on stage calling for reform.
“To make the dream come true again, we must not allow another Wall Street meltdown to bring down hard-working families,” he said. “We have a responsibility to put it outside the realm of the possible – by reinstating Glass-Steagall and holding people accountable when they break the law.”
