2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBut this time will be different because of president Obama
The tpp will not fail labor and human rights the way the ftas of the past have. It won't lead to large trade deficits and lost jobs here. We'll enforce standards. It will benefit working people and the middle class. A rising tide floats all boats. Forget history, there's no danger that we'll repeat it.
Trust President Obama. He knows what's best for us.
And I have a lovely bridge in Brooklyn for sale.

(45,274 posts)That bridge is not even for sale.
The BOG bought it last week, waiting to sell it for scrap to China after TPP goes through.

(3,572 posts)it's only 8 out of several hundred she could write. The president let so many of us down in a way that we have felt betrayed enough to never get so involved in politics again - at least with that kind of emotional intensity. That's his unfortunate legacy for many of us.

(3,572 posts)Context. Is Everything. It should have been clear to everybody that "us" are the many "us" who worked in Iowa and all over the country for Barack Obama and felt/feel betrayed. I made clear I said "so many" of us. Obviously, the president has his supporters. But after listening to hundreds of hours of speeches and small coffee talks that the candidate I came to know and love, the issues he spoke to, the promises made, that the candidate once elected President - almost from day one - did almost the opposite of everything he said on the campaign trail and so many of "us" worked for. We know who we are - and there are multitudes. I'm surprised you even had to ask.
On Edit: Oh, and I have no intention to argue back and forth. To act like there aren't many who feel just like me (progressive Democrats) is truly disingenuous.

(57,099 posts)even if its too soon to let us in on the mechanism of it works. And its not too soon to at least let us see the draft of the "agreement".

(22,000 posts)and let both he and Congress know that the TPP is not acceptable. Overall I can see why he is taking the strategy of trying to set up a trade deal without China because their products sold here (whether they are made by a Chinese company or an American company) are killing us. But I agree with you and others that the text of the TPP needs to be made public.
