Elizabeth Warren gets 95% vote at state convention!

Last edited Sun Jun 3, 2012, 09:14 AM - Edit history (1)

I hear that in order to avoid a primary run-off with challenger Warren had to get 85% of the vote. This in my in-box:

Incredible news: I just received the nomination of the Massachusetts Democratic Convention with 95% of the vote!

This happened because we worked together -- day after day after day -- to build our grassroots support, and because we organized and organized -- and then organized some more.

Now it's time to focus our energy on Scott Brown, and I'm ready.

Are you ready?

Are you ready to take on Wall Street? Are you ready to take on Big Oil?

Are you ready to block the Republicans from taking over the United States Senate in November?

Are you ready to tell Scott Brown to put on his $675 barn coat and go home?

Thank you for being a part of this. Together we can win this election and put the People's Seat back in the hands of the people of Massachusetts.

Elizabeth

serious govt stimulus to create jobs, single-payer health care, and who do not wish to see troops on the ground in Iran.

Warren's jobs plan is three Democratic bills that failed to pass. (Does anyone know what these were? Warren never refers to their specifics.) Her health care plan is to keep the current health care legislation but to make no effort (not even long-term) to get Medicare for all. Her plan for reducing health care costs is "more research", which ignores the fact that other industrialized countries achieve better outcomes for far less cost right now, with no more medical knowledge than we have. She has indicated that all options are on the table regarding Iran.

Warren's web site states "Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons, it is an active state sponsor of terrorism, and its leaders have consistently challenged Israel’s right to exist. Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons is unacceptable because a nuclear Iran would be a threat to the United States, our allies, the region, and the world. The United States must take the necessary steps to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon."

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta stated not long ago that Iran was found to have no plans to pursue a nuclear weapon. Warren must have some kind of inside information.

I feel like I did when everyone was on the bandwagon for the Iraq war. Anyone with an opposite view was treated like a moonbat.

supporting the war in Iraq? Wow. Gosh we're dumb! Cause imo only complete idiots bought into Team Bush's bullshit war.

I checked out her website and have read & seen many interviews with her, I disagree with your assessment.

29 Democratic senators voted in favor of the resolution to allow Bush to attack Iraq if Saddam refused to give up WMDs. 21 Democrats voted against it. See:

You are certainly entitled to support the candidate of your choice in the primary, whoever they are. The general election is where your party expects your support. The test of your credibility lies in knowing the stakes for all democrats if we lose the senate and casting your vote for Warren.

Up here in Maine there is a primary election, period. At the convention, the candidates make speeches, but the voters decide the nominee regardless of who seems more popular and likely to win the nomination. Interesting how it varies state to state.

We have primaries in MI and voters determine who gets wins that slot. However there are a few positions decided at convention in MI such as who will be the AG and SoS candidate. Interesting how each state does it their own way, eh?

What a stark difference! I prefer our system because if we lose the Gov/Lt. Gov then at least we still have a chance at the SoS & AG.

Sadly, we may as well of had Maine's system in place last time around. The only state wide elected Dems in MI currently are our Senators. Horrifying!

Julie

Edited to add: This is another thing I really like about DU, finding out how things are done all around the country, and sometimes all around the world. I really enjoy learning from all of you DUers all over the place.

In my state, everything that happens at my county's convention is pretty set in stone unless there's a write-in (on the Democratic side, the tea party has changed the GOP's conventions).

Only one candidate will get the M County Democrats line on the primary ballot, but the others are free to stay in if they choose to. If a district includes more than one county, sometimes the counties will give different candidates the line.

As long as I've been a primary voting Democrat (I moved here in 07, first primary was 08) then it's been conventions.
