Anyone here ever do canvassing for the party? This is a paid position.

I received an email from the county democratic organization about openings for (part-time, temporary) canvassers, including door-to-door, phone calling, helping with events, some travel, etc. I could do some part time work if not "too" many hours.

I'm curious about a couple things:
How much does such a position pay? Approximately?
Do they do tax and social security withholding for such a limited income assignment?

Would appreciate if you can shed some light.

PS - This is for Iowa, Pottawattomie County.

and ask just what they're paying?

And any legal organization paying you should of course withhold taxes and social security.

How about you consider that I have? And not yet received a response? It's the middle of the night. It's now Sunday. I am curious - Now.

How about you just not respond if you're irritated with the question?

I forget what it's called but orgs can also just pay you cash and then file a form with the IRS (as well as send one to you for when you file your taxes).

As some states use them (in my state Pandora's Box was opened and canvassers expect to get paid).

We pay about $40 for a 4 hour shift and expect about 60 doors (depending on the neighborhood). AS for taxes, canvassers are 1099 employees.

that I was trying to put my finger on. I am poll sitting Tuesday (now today) and I believe they pay cash since it's a one day thing.

Truth is if I did both I probably would not earn enough to have to file taxes.I'm just supplementing my disability income now.

Most of them were from outside the state, but they were awfully dedicated, had the same ones for two consecutive campaigns. I don't know how much they made, but it must have been worthwhile, since they came from other parts of the country. Sounds like a worthwhile and interesting job, to me, if you're willing to travel. Who would watch Max and the kitties?
